These sheets of Wanhao D7 FEP Film are made from non-stick plastic and are made to act as the mechanical interface between the LCD and the build plate for the Wanhao Duplicator 7 DLP Printer. Designed to be fitted and tightened between the LCD panel and the build plate, these sheets form a clean, smooth and flat print surface that light can travel through to solidify the resin.

The films are made from fluorinated ethylene propylene or FEP, which is similar in composition to PTFE and PFA and shares the low friction and non-reactive characteristics. It is highly transparent and resistant to UV light, but is susceptible to melting at around 260°C. FEP is also more flexible than similar plastics, but doesn’t withstand repeated folding or bending. These traits make it perfect for DLP 3D Printing, which doesn’t require heat like FDM printers, but rather relies on UV light to solidify the resin.

Instructions for Replacing the Wanhao D7 FEP Film:

To replace your Wanhao D7 FEP Film on your printer, untighten the screws in the holding chassis to remove the previous film. Then, place the new film underneath the chassis and carefully puncture the film in the four corners where the corner screws will go. Then, after inserting and tightening the corner screws, puncture the film to make space for the remaining screws around the edge of the chassis. After puncturing the remaining holes, insert the remaining screws around the edge, but be sure to alternate between sides. This will ensure that the film doesn’t get pulled or stretched too far to any one side, and will keep the build platform uniform.

Finally, take a fresh new blade and cut the extra bits off the edge around the chassis, and be careful that the blade doesn’t catch the film badly as this can lead to a tear on the now-tight film. You may also want to clean the film with isopropyl alcohol if there are any marks or fingerprints, as dirt on the film can possibly cause problems during printing.

While this process can be tricky the first time, there are a few videos on the internet that can help you learn how to get it right, so don’t be scared to check out YouTube if you are still unsure on the installation and replacement process.

Wanhao D7 FEP Film

Wanhao have been supplying 3D Printers internationally since as early as 2012, and have rapidly garnered a world-renowned reputation for quality machines, parts and components. After originally banding together as a group of friends and purchasing a Makerbot Thing-O-Matic, they created their own “Duplicator 1” 3D Printer, which was essentially a replica of the Thing-O-Matic, with slight modifications and alterations to make it better suit typical users.

Wanhao’s strengths have always stemmed from the fact that they are both 3D Makers and 3D Printer Manufacturers, which allows them to understand the needs of the end user when developing new models or upgrades. It is the same reason why they always make sure to stock spares of all of the different parts and components, because they believe that you should never have to buy an entirely new printer if one part breaks, and should instead be able to simply replace whichever part is broken.

There are few 3D Printing manufacturers with as much experience and reputation as Wanhao, which is why we have chosen them as one of our top suppliers here at DIYElectronics. Not only do they continue to bring out exciting new models and upgrades for existing models, but they also align with our own company culture and values by proactively supplying all of the spare parts that customers might need – so that you, as an end user, never have to source spares or alternatives if you have problems with faulty or broken parts throughout the lifespan of your 3D Printer.
