Batteries are fantastic little tools that allows us Makers to take our projects out into the world, making them portable so that they can travel with us, be installed in remote locations, or simply powered up where an AC supply simply isn’t possible. This is why we place a pretty high value on Battery Holders like these Dual Slot 18650 Battery Holders with DC2.1 Jacks, as they let us give our projects portability and freedom from an AC wall outlet, ensuring that even if Eskom strikes again and the power goes out, our projects will keep on operating in just the way that we designed them to.

In addition to offering dual slots for 18650 Lithium Batteries, these battery holders are slightly unique in the way that they are terminated with a handy 2.1mm DC Jack. This is extremely convenient, as it means that you don’t have to terminate it yourself – which can be rather tricky with DC Jack connectors – while still enjoying default compatibility with 2.1mm DC terminals. This of course lets you use this battery holder as a simple power supply for Arduino projects, of which many take a 2.1mm DC Jack, but also for a good variety of other hobbyist grade Electronics Modules, as well as for a good range of consumer-grade electronics devices such as modems, alarm clocks and many other handy items. Internally, the batteries are connected in series, which means that you can expect between 6.6V and 8.4V on the output, depending of course on the charge of the batteries, and this is a very usable voltage range that is relatively easy to both step up and step down as you need.

Please Note: Although this battery holder features slightly mixed labelling on the inside, it’s important that you connect batteries in series for it to operate properly. As such, follow the orientation of the “Series” labelling to ensure centre-positive barrel jack polarity, or reverse the orientations of the batteries if you want the barrel jack to offer centre-negative polarity. Furthermore, it's always a good idea to use a multimeter to test the barrel jack polarity before plugging in, just so you can be sure that the batteries are in the correct orientation, and that the project or module that you're plugging it into won't be damaged by reverse polarity.
