This Nokia 5110 LCD Module is one of the most nostalgic products we stock, and is still effective for a surprisingly wide range of applications. Originally designed for the Nokia 5110 cell phone, this LCD screen is now used in DIY electronics projects with microcontrollers like Arduino and Raspberry Pi thanks to the perfect balance of high functionality, low power consumption and ease of use. It features a Philips PCD8544 interface chip and has a reasonably impressive resolution of 84x48 pixels despite the age of its technology.

This LCD module has a standard 0.1 inch pin header signal interface and supports SPI communication with the PCD8544 driver, which allows Development Platforms like Arduino to control almost every aspect of the LCD. This allows it to be integrated into a wide range of projects, especially in robotics and small DIY devices like distance measuring tools. Just remember that if you are using a 5V microcontroller, like many of the Arduino Boards, to provide power to this module, you will need a shift converter to step down the voltage while maintaining the right ratio for accurate controls.

Typical Applications for the Nokia 5110 LCD Module:

Thanks to the functionality and low power consumption of the Nokia 5110 LCD Module, it is often used for robotics and Electronics projects that need a display but don’t require a large range of colours and intense graphics. It is capable of producing relatively high-quality bitmap images, with real time clock input as well as an adjustable backlight. It is commonly used for projects like building small robots with animated faces and emotions, as well as for tools like distance or temperature measuring devices that need to display text, numbers or visual representations of levels but don’t need advanced graphical features.
