Please Note: eSun has recently changed their filament spool material. You may receive a cardboard spool, instead of the plastic spools depicted above. This move means a more environmentally friendly design to their 3D filament spools which comfortably sit on your 3D printer's standard spool holder for smooth filament feeding.

As some of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of high-quality 3D Filaments, as well as one of the most diverse ranges of different polymers available, it’s not too surprising to find that eSUN have stepped up once again to improve their already-impressive eSUN ePEEK formula with a specialised Pro variation.

This new eSUN ePEEK Pro Filament is made for 1.75mm compatible 3D Printers, and is supplied in spools of 0.25kg, with the natural PEEK colour of beige. It is an improved polymer from the their original eSUN ePEEK Filament, offering a smoother and more consistent finish thanks to the addition of a small amount of specialised lubricant, which of course improves upon the low friction-coefficient of PEEK, with the added benefit of reduced discolouration of prints.

ePEEK Pro: A Highly Specialised Polymer

Because PEEK is a very specialised material, it is typically not possible to print this filament on standard desktop or Hobbyist 3D Printers, and will require a specialised “High-Temperature 3D Printer” with a full convection-heated enclosure, ±400°C capable hotend assembly, as well as a good general design to keep the electronics and other parts away from the high temperatures. However, a few very experienced and savvy Makers have been able to convert their desktop 3D printers into high-temp printers, but this is not only difficult, and can also be costly, so if you’re unsure at all about whether you could do the conversion, it may be a better idea to simply utilise easier Exotic Filaments with similar capabilities instead.

Typical Applications for eSUN ePEEK Pro Filament:

Although many of us would love to try our hand at experimenting with this very specialised filament, it is unfortunately almost impossible to print with on standard hobbyist and Desktop 3D Printers, and requires special “High Temperature 3D Printers” to effective reach and maintain the extreme heat needed to extrude PEEK effectively.

However, there are some brave and endearing individuals in online Maker communities who have managed to transform hobbyist printers into high-temp’ printers, but this has typically cost them more in terms of time and money compared to simply buying a specialised printer. So while it may be possible to convert your 3D printer into a PEEK printer, it should be considered as more of a hobbyist project than a serious investment, since it will take a lot of time, effort and trial and error to get it printing right with reliable repeatability.

So if you have a standard desktop 3D printer, it may be a better idea to look at filaments like Nylon (PA) Filament or Delrin (POM) Filament if you want to print high-durability low-friction parts, as those filaments are very tricky to print with, but are still far easier to print than PEEK.

Shenzhen eSUN Industrial Co., Ltd was established in 2002 in Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and has rapidly become one of the leading international suppliers of 3D Printing Filament. They specialise in research, development and production of degradable polymer materials, and have grown their catalogue of filaments to include PLA, ABS, PC, PVA, and a wide range of other polymers and copolymers.

Their list of exclusive filament formulas include unique materials like wood, aluminium, bronze and other materials to create highly specialised filaments that can stretch, bend, be moulded or otherwise behave in very unique ways. Their filaments are also commonly characterised by their absolutely round shape, extremely low diameter tolerance, uniform colours and impressively stable melting points. These characteristics, in combination with their long-term insistent policy of “Best Quality, Reasonable Price” has garnered them a large share of the market, with their reputation commonly preceding them within knowledgeable online and offline 3D Printing communities.

eSUN’s popularity in the industry has also helped to produce sustainable partnerships with many internationally famous 3D Printer manufacturers and distributors, with DIYElectronics having sole distributorship rights to provide their 3D Printing Filaments to South Africa and neighbouring African countries.
