Within the world of 3D Printing, there are so many different types of 3D Printer Filaments to choose from, with new polymers coming out almost monthly. One such example of this is Blue Flexible 1.75mm TPU Filament, which offers the unique characteristic of being flexible and durable against impacts and compression forces. With a shore hardness of between 90 and 98, this filament can be printed with an almost tyre-like feel, which can be “squished” quite dramatically while still reverting back to its original shape and form.

This flexible TPU filament is a polymer that utilises PLA as a base plastic, meaning it has very similar printing specifications to Standard PLA Filament. However, the added materials that give it the unique flexible traits means that the polymer does require some experimentation and practice to get just right. So, as a start, begin by raising the temperature of your hotend and heatbed by around 10 to 20 degrees, and set the machine to print at a slightly slower speed. From there, you will simply need to tweak the printing specifications until you are satisfied with the print quality, aiming for as little stringing and lifting as possible.

Typical Applications for CCTREE's Blue Flexible 1.75mm TPU Filament:

Learning to print with Flexible TPU filament opens up so many new possibilities, and allows you to print a plethora of excitingly unique parts, models and even toys for your kids. Some great examples of unique prints with flexible filament include:

  • Wheels and timing belts for robotics applications.
  • Fun toys that utilise flexibility in interesting or unexpected ways.
  • Airless tyres that utilise structural integrity to maintain a round shape while still allowing for good compression.
  • Soles for shoes or custom-made sandals that offer good support while being able to bend as the wearer walks or runs.

So consider getting some flexible filament to experiment with, and discover the amazing characteristics that make it one of the most popular Exotic Filament polymers on the market. Just remember that you will need to practice and try different settings to get your prints just right, although the effort you put into experimentation will certainly pay off when you are able to produce quality prints that are flexible, bendable, durable and resistant to impacts and compression.

CCTREE is somewhat of a newcomer compared to brands like eSUN and Wanhao, but have certainly made big waves with their cost-effective PLA, ABS and Exotic 3D Printer Filaments.

They are a subsidiary of Shenzhen Prime Technology Company, and have chosen to partner with us as their South African suppliers, affording us the opportunity to supply South Africa with quality 3D filament at an even lower price than they offer on their official website.

Aside from the cost-efficiency of their 3D Printer Filaments, what we like most about CCTREE is that they share a similar business approach to our own here at DIYElectronics, with the belief that “When you buy from us, the sale is not complete when we ship your order, it is complete when you are totally satisfied.”
