When building your own control circuits for projects like turntables, or when designing interfaces for Displays in your projects, there are so many different little Buttons, Switches and Knobs that you can use to translate your actions into actions within the project or on-screen. However, one of the most accurate and reliable of these control mechanisms is the good old Potentiometer, which utilises Variable Resistors with defined “Positions” in order to ascertain precise rotational motion and exact positional accuracy in both the clockwise and counter-clockwise directions.
The AD8400ARZ1 is a Digital Potentiometer Chip with 1KΩ internal resistance and 256 Unique Positions, which operates in a Linear fashion with Serial 3-Wire/Serial-SPI interfacing. And while many of the words mentioned above would scare away newbies to Electronics design, the veterans will be able to appreciate the high level of accuracy and easy programming interface that this fantastic chip offers. The AD8400ARZ1 comes in the classic SOIC package, lending itself well to Prototyping and PCB repairs, while the wide operating voltage of 2.7V to 5.5V DC ensures that it can be integrated into almost any low-voltage Electronics projects – with a particular focus on development boards like Arduino, Raspberry Pi and their alternatives.
