In modern times, we are very lucky to have digital calculators and computers to do a lot of our basic Mathematics for us. However, in the past, these digital calculation machines weren’t as common as they are now (if at all depending on how far back you go), and old-school Makers would have to rely on physical calculation tools to get on-the-fly results from sometimes inputs that weren’t always consistent.
This is primarily why Op Amps were invented, to help Electronics Makers perform relatively complex Maths by physically adding, subtracting, integrating, multiplying and dividing two inputs against each other, producing results that changed according to the inputs, while still maintaining a high level of accuracy and amplifying those results with a gain, so as to make them clearly identifiable and easy to use once processed.
This MCP6002T is a general purpose 1MHz Low-Power Op Amp, which offers two Op Amp Integrated Circuits built into a neat and tidy SOIC package, operating on a relatively common voltage range of between 1.8V and 6V and built for general purpose applications. Additionally, because this unit offers dual Op Amps in a single SOIC package, it can either be used for standard applications such as an inverting or non-inverting amplification, or they can be used together for very advanced applications like instrumentation amplifier derivation or noise-resistant differential amplification.
