Although we seem to be hurtling towards the future like Halley’s Comet hurtles through space, there are a few technologies that have been so effective that nobody has yet been able to create a new technology to surpass it. One such technology is the classic barcode, which has been around for as long as many of us can remember, and despite being so simple, barcodes have managed to maintain their position as the most convenient means of storing and rapidly disseminating information in tiny bite-sized stickers or prints.

With this in mind, we figured it was about time to get a cool Barcode Scanner Module to stock for our customers, but instead of simply going for the classic 1D barcode reader, we’ve chosen a really cool model that can scan both 1D and 2D barcodes, with ultra-convenient scanning methods for defining and modifying settings on the fly – and without the need for an external interfacing device like a computer or complex Programming Modules.

This Barcode Scanner Module is capable of reading a wide range of barcodes, and this list includes 10 types of 1D barcodes as well as 3 types of 2D barcodes, with the ever-prevalent Codebars and QR Codes being included too. This ensures that, almost regardless of what industry you’re in or styles of barcodes that you use, this scanner is a great choice for very reliable data storage, product categorisation and rapid identification.

Please Note: This Barcode Scanner Module uses 2D barcodes to help make setup and software adjustments as easy as possible. These are all contained within the user manual featured in the Downloads section of this description, and we recommend downloading and printing these out to ensure you always have them on hand when you need to modify or define any settings.

Typical Applications for Barcode Scanner Module for 1D/2D Barcodes:

This Barcode Scanner Module, despite being designed for a very specific application, is surprisingly diverse in its functionality since it can read both 1D and 2D barcodes. This makes it a lot more impressive than the original barcode scanners, and may even be more impressive than you think since it is capable of scanning 2D barcodes without the need for camera – and by utilising only reflective light techniques.

However, even with this advanced barcode scanning functionality, it is still just a barcode scanner, and one of the only unique and unexpected functions it offers is the ability to act as an input device by scanning particular codes for numbers and letters – although this isn’t quite as impressive unless you are planning on making your very customised interaction interface for one of your projects.

Additional Resources:

  • If you are planning to communicate with the Barcode Reader Module via the USB interface, it’s important to know that you will need a TTL to USB board like the CP2102 USB to UART Module to communicate effectively and without any problems.
