The Arduino compatible SEN0161 pH Sensor V2.0 is a clever little module designed to measure the acidic and alkaline levels of liquids by identifying the pH, or hydrogen ion concentration index, level of the solution. It uses Sensors to measure the level of impedance of the solution instead of relying on a human to compare the results with a specific colour-index. This results in far more accurate readings, as you can discover the exact pH levels rather than deciding on whether the solution looks more yellow or orange – which is particularly tough if the user is colour-blind or the environmental lighting conditions are not optimal.

Although this Electronics Module is part of the DFRobot “Gravity” series, it can be used for both hobbyist and professional applications due to the ease of use, compatibility with a wide range of modular electronics, as well as the consistently high levels of accuracy that it offers. It operates on any voltage between 3.3V and 5.5V DC, allowing it to be used with many different Microcontrollers like the Arduino UNO, and requires no soldering or complicated setup procedures to get it working optimally.

Just be sure to keep this unit clean, and avoid even small bumps or scratches to the glass probe on the end. With such a high level of accuracy, even a small scratch or dent that is invisible to the naked eye can easily affect the results that the probe gives. Fortunately though, the probe comes with a protective cap to prevent any unexpected damage, allowing you to keep it safe and extremely accurate for when you need to get scientific and measure the hydrogen ion concentration index of a solution.

With a consumer-centric approach, DFRobot have ensures that this little kit includes the pH probe with cap, the signal conversion board, an analogue sensor, some M3 screws and M3 nylon standoff pillars, two waterproof gaskets and two sets of pH 4.0 and pH 7.0 solutions to calibrate the sensor. This ensures that all you need to get is a microcontroller in order to get straight into the action and measuring the pH levels for agriculture, medicine, chemistry, as well as many other professional and hobbyist applications.

Typical Applications for the SEN0161 pH Sensor V2.0:

With such high levels of accuracy and impressive compatibility with a wide range of different Development Platforms, microcontrollers and modules, with an included signal conversion board to handle all of the complicated electrical conversions and turn all of the data into legible information for users. Just remember that you will need to isolate this signal board from conductive surfaces for the same reason that you need to keep the probe clean, as the high sensitivity of this SEN0161 pH Sensor V2.0 can be easily disturbed or influenced by external impedances.
