When it comes to getting the right Memory Cards for whatever tasks you require them for, it can be difficult to translate the sometimes-complex ratings systems that each different model claims to offer. Fortunately, these ratings are actually quite easy to understand once you know that some ratings, like speed class, are older ratings, while UHS and A ratings are catered to more modernised applications and use cases. So let’s take a look at the various ratings and classifications of the SanDisk 32GB Micro SD Card, and how each of the ratings affect you as an end user.

This SanDisk 32GB Micro SDHC Card features a full Class 10 standard speed rating, which means it has been stress tested to operate at a minimum of 10MB/s sequential read and write speed. This is important for video recording and other media that typically record in sequential blocks of memory. However, because software applications tend to read and write from random blocks of the memory, this standard class rating doesn’t affect application speed too much, but it does affect the speed at which data is written and read when copying files to and from the card.

The next cool feature of these cards is that they are UHS-1 rating, which is the next generation of speed classification. This rating essentially goes above and beyond what the Class 1 to 10 rating can achieve, and UHS-1 is equivalent to the older style Class 10. However, UHS also extends to higher ratings like UHS-3, which offers minimum sequential read/write speeds of 30MB/s minimum, and we suspect that it’s only a matter of time before the UHS classification makes the older Class 1 to 10 ratings obsolete.
