Within the world of 3D printing, although there is always exciting news about new polymers and developments of major components, very few people actually consider “minor components” like the nozzle – the unsung hero that is the final point of contact of extrusion. Fortunately though, even if news about these types of “minor components” is few and far between, there are still companies like Micro Swiss dedicated to refining and improving this aspect of 3D printer components, and they have actually garnered an impressive reputation for providing some of the highest quality 3D printer nozzles in the world.

The 0.3mm Micro Swiss MK8 Plated Brass Nozzle for Creality 3D printers is a perfect example of how Micro Swiss are advancing the world of nozzles for 3D printers, and has been designed with two core focuses in mind:

Firstly, these nozzles, despite using simple brass as a base material, are plated for extra durability even when printing some of the toughest materials and exotic filaments like carbon fiber. This greatly extends the lifespan of the nozzle, and also helps to reduce failed prints and wasted time and money, while also saving money on the plethora of brass nozzles that would typically be required to match the lifespan that these plated nozzles offer.

Secondly, the plating applied to these Micro Swiss nozzles is not just for durability, but has also been specially created to offer an ultra-low friction coefficient – resulting in better print quality as well as substantially fewer problems like clogging and blobbing. And because these nozzles are composed mostly of brass, the plating doesn’t do much in terms of changing the time they take to heat up – which is a typical drawback of nozzles made from materials like stainless steel.

Note: This is a Micro Swiss Original MK8 Nozzle, supplied directly by the industry leaders in nozzle R&D and Production. This ensures premium quality and lasting durability, even when dealing with high-corrosion filaments like Carbon Fiber and MetalFill.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS FOR THESE 0.3MM MICRO SWISS MK8 PLATED BRASS NOZZLES:

These premium-quality Micro Swiss nozzles are 0.3mm in size, which is  a slightly smaller output than the common 0.4mm nozzles used on 3D printers, offering more printing detail but without compromising too much on speed. These 0.3mm nozzles are still within the popular range, ensuring that it won’t require much learning, and all you will need to do is modify a few settings in your slicer. Standard nozzles are 0.4mm in size, which is often considered to be the ideal size for everyday 3D printing, but some Makers have found a slightly smaller nozzle does the trick. It can be difficult to find a great balance of printing speed and precision detail.

These 0.3mm Micro Swiss Nozzles are a lovely middleground when 0.4mm is too big, but 0.2mm is too small. However, if you are wanting to print larger objects at a faster rate, then you should certainly consider a larger output nozzle. While if you love to print smaller, highly-detailed objects like jewellery designs, personalised keyrings and other goodies, then a small nozzle like a 0.2mm nozzle is ideal. For standard printing that's still on the small side, this 0.3mm size is the perfect best of both worlds.

Please Note: These nozzles do not fit the Creality CR-10S Pro stock hotend assemblies, since they use an M6-0.75 thread instead of the standard M6-1 thread.

QUICK GUIDE TO CHANGING YOUR 0.3MM MICRO SWISS MK8 NOZZLE:

When swapping out 3D printer nozzles from other components, we recommend utilising the hot tightening technique for optimal thermal coupling. To do this, simply follow these easy steps, while being careful not to burn yourself of course.

  • Unscrew the heatbreak from the heatsink by about half a turn, to be sure you are not tightening against the heatbreak in later stages.
  • Heat up your hotend to 285°C, but do not overshoot as you risk damaging your thermistor.
  • Remove the existing nozzle from the heater block and insert the new nozzle.
  • While firmly gripping the heater block, slowly tighten the nozzle. Be careful, however, that you not apply any torque through the heatbreak, as they are fragile and relatively easy to break when loose.
  • Turn off the heating unit and allow the hot side to cool.
  • Finally, once the nozzle is installed and cooled down, tighten the heatbreak back into the heatsink and ensure that there are no loose parts.

The reason for this method is because aluminium heater blocks have a different coefficient of thermal expansion than the materials used in the nozzles and heat breaks. As such, tightening these components while cold results in a small gap being created between the nozzle and the break inside the block when the hot end is at temperature, which can lead to clogs, blobbing and other frustrating problems.

Within 3D Printing, there are a few brands whose hard work has made them stand out from the rest, with real innovation and the ability to not only refine old designs, but actually redesign from the ground up to offer more comprehensive upgrades for 3D printing enthusiasts and Makers throughout the world.

Micro Swiss is one such brand that perfectly fits this description, and since their founding back in 2015, the Micro Swiss brand has garnered world-wide attention for the quality, material composition and precision of their hotends, nozzles and other all-metal components. With a core focus on TwinClad XT Plated Brass Nozzles and All-Metal Hotend Upgrades for some of the most popular 3D Printers on the market, it’s no surprise that one of the easiest and most effective upgrades available to Makers are Micro Swiss Replacement Parts and Upgrade Kits.

In addition to the amazing 3D Printing components and upgrades that they produce, Micro Swiss also specialise in Swiss Turning, which is capable of precision CNC machining outer diameters as small as 0.0127mm, as well as CNC milling, tapping and post machining finishing for prototyping. These service offerings and correlating skillsets ensure that the Micro Swiss team is more than just capable of producing consistently high-quality parts, but also capable of identifying precisely where each part could use improvements.

As manufacturers and end-users of everything they produce, Micro Swiss is one of the most impressive brands we’ve had the pleasure of dealing with, and we look forward to all of the exciting refinements and developments that they are bound to bring out in the future.
