This is a 0.4mm MK10 Nozzle for 3mm Filament 3D printers, stocked to fit the Wanhao Duplicator 5S. The 0.4mm diameter means that it is a general purpose nozzle, made from brass to offer a good balance between thermal conductivity and durability. This makes it an excellent choice for standard ABS and PLA Filaments, although you may need a specialised stainless steel nozzle for more corrosive or abrasive Exotic Filaments.

Whether you are looking for a replacement nozzle for your 3D printer, or are eager to upgrade to a larger or smaller nozzle depending on your printing needs, this 0.4mm nozzle strikes the perfect balance between printing speed and accuracy.

As a final note, don’t forget to utilise the hot-tightening technique explained below, to ensure that it works optimally in your 3D printer without causing any unnecessary problems.

Changing Nozzles – The Hot Tightening Technique:

When swapping out 3D Printer Nozzles on a 3D printer, we recommend resorting to the hot tightening technique. Follow this procedure - being careful not to burn yourself.

  • Unscrew the heat-break from the heatsink half a turn to be sure you are not tightening against the heat-break in later stages.
  • Heat up your hot end to 285°C. Do not overshoot as you risk damaging your thermistor.
  • Remove the existing nozzle from the heater block.
  • Insert the new nozzle.
  • Gripping the heater block tighten the nozzle. Do not apply any torque through the heat-break, they are fragile.
  • Turn off the heat and allow the hot side to cool.
  • Re-tighten the heat-break into the heatsink.

The reason for this is that the aluminium heater blocks often have a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than the brass and steel used in the nozzles and heat breaks. This results in a small gap being created between the nozzle and the break inside the block when the hot end is at temperature, but this only happens if the nozzle has been tightened while cold.

Wanhao have been supplying 3D Printers internationally since as early as 2012, and have rapidly garnered a world-renowned reputation for quality machines, parts and components. After originally banding together as a group of friends and purchasing a Makerbot Thing-O-Matic, they created their own “Duplicator 1” 3D Printer, which was essentially a replica of the Thing-O-Matic, with slight modifications and alterations to make it better suit typical users.

Wanhao’s strengths have always stemmed from the fact that they are both 3D Makers and 3D Printer Manufacturers, which allows them to understand the needs of the end user when developing new models or upgrades. It is the same reason why they always make sure to stock spares of all of the different parts and components, because they believe that you should never have to buy an entirely new printer if one part breaks, and should instead be able to simply replace whichever part is broken.

There are few 3D Printing manufacturers with as much experience and reputation as Wanhao, which is why we have chosen them as one of our top suppliers here at DIYElectronics. Not only do they continue to bring out exciting new models and upgrades for existing models, but they also align with our own company culture and values by proactively supplying all of the spare parts that customers might need – so that you, as an end user, never have to source spares or alternatives if you have problems with faulty or broken parts throughout the lifespan of your 3D Printer.
