This is a 0.3mm replacement nozzle for the Makerbot MK7 Stepstruder for 1.75mm filament.

Although the MK7 nozzles where originally developed for the Makerbot MK7 Stepstruder they can be used on a variety of hot end assemblies such as the E3D V5 hot end assembly for 1.75mm filament or the E3D V6 hot end assembly for 1.75mm filament as well as being used in many other printers such as Geetech and Wanhao.

The top of the nozzle is threaded in order to fit into the MK7 heater block.

It is good to keep in mind that brass nozzles are vulnerable to abrasive erosion by more exotic filaments like carbon-fibre filled materials, metal powder filled materials and glow in the dark filaments and also may be damaged by nasty head crashes.

Changing Nozzles:

When swapping out your nozzles from other hot end components, we recommend resorting to the hot tightening technique. Follow this procedure - being careful not to burn yourself.

  • Unscrew the heat-break from the heatsink half a turn to be sure you are not tightening against the heat-break in later stages.
  • Heat up your hot end to 285°C. Do not overshoot as you risk damaging your thermistor.
  • Remove the existing nozzle from the heater block.
  • Insert the new nozzle.
  • Gripping the heater block tighten the nozzle. Do not apply any torque through the heat-break, they are fragile.
  • Turn off the heat and allow the hot side to cool.
  • Re-tighten the heat-break into the heatsink.

The reason for this is that the aluminium heater blocks used have a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than the brass and steel used in the nozzles and heat breaks. This results in a small gap being created between the nozzle and the break inside the block when the hot end is at temperature, but this only happens if the nozzle has been tightened while cold.

*Note this is not supplied by Makerbot themselves it is manufactured to the same specs and quality controlled locally to ensure it functions exactly as expected while saving you money.
