The WANHAO Duplicator 7 Plus is the latest iteration of Wanhao’s D7 range, which are UV Resin DLP printers that utilise light to harden 405nm UV-Reactive Resin. This has a number of distinct advantages over FDM printers, such as better printing accuracy, smoother and more detailed prints, as well as automatic overhang generation built into the software. This makes it ideal for finely detailed quality prints for applications like dentistry and jewellery design, although the parts and models that these printers produce are not typically as strong as FDM prints in ABS or PLA 3D Printer Filaments.

Compared to the original Wanhao Duplicator 7, this new model no longer requires the use of a computer, and doesn’t need to have a dedicated computer screen to operate. It also has an improved maximum layer height of 500microns compared to the previous 100microns, even though the minimum layer height has been reduced to 20microns compared to the previous 35microns. These are the main upgrades of the Plus iteration, although there are also a few minor upgrades that are worth mentioning as well.

In terms of minor chassis-related and quality-of-life improvements, the Wanhao D7 Plus has an upgraded chassis design, built from black powder-coated steel with an aluminium build plate and stand beam for longlasting durability. It also has a new colour touchscreen user interface on the front panel, which allows users to operate this 3D Printer directly, rather than via a computer with a dedicated monitor to control it.

Note: Cured resins generally are not very durable, therefore this is not typically ideal for manufacturing load bearing parts.

Typical Applications for the Wanhao Duplicator 7 Plus:

The Wanhao Duplicator 7 Plus is designed primarily to produce highly detailed, smooth and consistent quality prints, making it the ideal tool for prototyping detailed objects like jewellery and other accessories. It is also ideal within the professional realm, and has become particularly popular within dentistry, where dentists need to be able to produce models of teeth and gums with precision accuracy.

As a final note, just bear in mind that while the prints produced by these printers are highly accurate, they are not very durable, meaning they are not good for mechanical parts that will be subject to stress and tension. However, with that being said, the prints are durable enough to handle small knocks and light stresses, such as what jewellery or similar accessories would be subject to. So as long as you aren’t eager to print cogs, spanners or other types of stress-heavy parts and tools, this printer is an excellent choice if you are eager for quality, consistency and impressive attention to detail.

Bought this today. The manual that comes with it is for the old model. Doesn't apply to this model at all. No HDMI in and cant connect PC to it so no NanoDLP. On top of this, the manufacturer website doesnt have ANY documentation on the plus model. It's been hours and I am still struggling to get the software to slice a model. I would definitely not recommend this product.

Wanhao Duplicator 7 Plus

Wanhao Duplicator 7 Plus

Wanhao have been supplying 3D Printers internationally since as early as 2012, and have rapidly garnered a world-renowned reputation for quality machines, parts and components. After originally banding together as a group of friends and purchasing a Makerbot Thing-O-Matic, they created their own “Duplicator 1” 3D Printer, which was essentially a replica of the Thing-O-Matic, with slight modifications and alterations to make it better suit typical users.

Wanhao’s strengths have always stemmed from the fact that they are both 3D Makers and 3D Printer Manufacturers, which allows them to understand the needs of the end user when developing new models or upgrades. It is the same reason why they always make sure to stock spares of all of the different parts and components, because they believe that you should never have to buy an entirely new printer if one part breaks, and should instead be able to simply replace whichever part is broken.

There are few 3D Printing manufacturers with as much experience and reputation as Wanhao, which is why we have chosen them as one of our top suppliers here at DIYElectronics. Not only do they continue to bring out exciting new models and upgrades for existing models, but they also align with our own company culture and values by proactively supplying all of the spare parts that customers might need – so that you, as an end user, never have to source spares or alternatives if you have problems with faulty or broken parts throughout the lifespan of your 3D Printer.
