As many of you long-time 3D Makers will have noticed, it’s been a good while since we’ve brought a new Delta-Style 3D Printer to SA. And unfortunately, this hasn’t been due to a lack of delta-style 3D Printers on the market, but rather due to the unimpressive features that the large majority of Delta-style 3D Printers have been manufactured with. However, after taking a good look at the new Anycubic Predator, we’ve been very impressed with how the world-renowned Anycubic Brand have packed an incredible number of awesome features into such a nice large build volume, and how they managed to do all of while keeping the price-point extremely attractive!

And now, with the foreword out of the way, let’s get straight to talking about this awesome new Anycubic Predator, which is a LARGE Delta-Style 3D Printer that has taken all of the best features from past designs, as well as a good range of the modern features that have gained a good reputation amongst many of the recent Cartesian-style 3D Printers too. This, after being complemented by Anycubic’s many years of experience and passionate R&D team, has produced what may possibly be the new leading Delta-Style 3D Printer on the market – all for a very attractive price when considering the 370mm diameter and 455mm high build volume.

So What Makes the Anycubic Predator Such an Exciting Addition to the Market?

In the past, comparing various 3D Printers was always relatively easy, as each model offered quite unique features due to the fact that the technology was advancing at an incredibly rapid pace. However, as certain features have gained popularity amongst 3D Maker communities, they have been slowly getting somewhat standardised, resulting in many of the major manufacturers utilising the same or similar features for all of the new models they produce. As such, we are going to take a look at just the top three features that we feel really differentiate the Anycubic Predator from the plethora of alternatives on the market.

As such, let’s take a look at some of the key features that we’ve found to particularly impressive, and which are distinctive to this fantastic 3D Printer:

  • Extremely Sturdy Design – From our experience, we have always enjoyed watching Delta-Style 3D Printers move, with the three arms rapidly moving up and down, sometimes oscillating at incredible speeds. However, we have noticed in the past that Delta-style 3D Printers tend to be top heavy, which was a serious concern when we were initially looking at the Predator, given its massive size and heavy-duty materials. Fortunately though, Anycubic have clearly also taken this into consideration, and the design of the Predator is incredibly sturdy, barely showing any signs of wobble or rocking even when operating at maximum printing speeds.
  • Custom 37-Point Auto Levelling – Although the argument between capacitive and inductive sensing will always be a hot topic of discussion amongst 3D Printing communities, both online and offline, few people can argue with direct touch-sensing probes like the BLTouch. This is why Anycubic decided to create their own simple yet elegant touch-based levelling solution, which magnetically attaches onto the hotend before probing 37 different points on the bed. From there, it maps out the exact height of the build platform on each of the 37 points, and saves that data to memory in order to provide perfect printing heights throughout the entire print platform.
  • Build Volume that Rivals the Best – While many people immediately think of Creality when considering the price-point vs. the total build volume, the Anycubic Predator is set to fiercely compete in this regard, offering an impressive 1075cm2 of adhesion area compared to the 900cm2 of the CR-10S Pro, with 5.5cm of extra height too! This translates to some serious space to create, and the Predator does a great job in rivalling some of the best build-volume-per-rand ratios that we’ve ever seen – even competing with the Original Ender 3 and the modern CR-10S Pro, with only the CR-10 MAX and the CR-10 S4/S5 printers offering a lower price per cm3.

In addition to these distinct features mentioned above, the Anycubic Predator also offers some excellent features that have become somewhat standardised, which of course includes print-resume functionality, a filament run-out sensor, a heated bed that reaches temperatures up to 110°C for ABS and other high-temp filaments, as well as a very user-friendly touchscreen interface for easily control and settings adjustments. All of these features, and a few unmentioned ones too, have been very nicely integrated into the beautiful package that is the Anycubic Predator 3D Printer.

So if you’ve been looking for a fresh new 3D Printer that comes with all the bells and whistles and a very impressive cm3-Per-Rand ratio, then you can’t go wrong with this beautiful and finely crafted machine.

Our Verdict on the Anycubic Predator - Large Delta 3D Printer:

Before receiving our demo unit from Anycubic, we were genuinely concerned with just how big this machine is, and how much it would possibly wobble when printing (or just moving) at high speeds. However, we have been pleasantly surprised and impressed with just how sturdy this large beast of a 3D Printer has been. And with that major concern out of the way, we must admit that we’ve loved almost every single feature on the machine – with the only exception being the fan duct, although this can be remedied easily with the Thingiverse Print featured below.

With that being said, out of all of the fantastic features of the Anycubic Predator, we have grown particularly fond of the clever bed levelling system, which is relatively unobtrusive since it just needs to be magnetically attached once every now and then when re-levelling the bed. The clever design of the bed has also ensured that, once the bed has been levelled initially, it should maintain this level for a long time, or at least until you decide to move the Predator to a different location. This is an awesome addition if you are accustomed to having to re-level your bed every few prints, and is arguably one of the best features on the all-new Anycubic Predator Large Delta 3D Printer.

So, as a final verdict, aside from the fan duct (which is easily fixable) we love everything about the Anycubic Predator, and even when compared to some of the power-players like the Creality CR-10 MAX and FlashForge Guider IIs, it stands its ground as one of the best value-for-money 3D Printers on the market.

Additional Resources:

  • Because the fan duct on the Anycubic Predator is 3D Printed (to save costs for the end-user), some users have reported that their air gaps are too high, and instead of blowing air on the printed parts, tend to blow air directly onto the nozzle and heating block. If you find that yours is doing the same, then This Predator Fan Duct on Thingiverse is designed to remedy this.

Finally, the following video is an excellent rundown of all of the great features of the Anycubic Predator, while also discussing some of the upgrades like TL-Smoothers, while also showing the relatively quick and easy build, as well as demonstrating the quality for various applications:

Anycubic are a brand dedicated to manufacturing, researching, developing and refining 3D printing technologies and consumables, and have been slowly garnering a strong community of users, ambassadors and evangelists over the years. They continuously bring out new models with various improvements that aim to enhance printing quality, speed, and convenience - with the end user as their top priority through each design. They are best-known for their Anycubic i3 Mega, Kossel Delta and Anycubic Photon printers, as well as the UltraBase, which is a modern design that utilises air pressure at different temperatures for effective print adhesion and removal.

What makes Anycubic unique as a 3D printer manufacturer, compared to many other brands in the world, is that despite their rapid R&D and design phases, they always ensure that the finished result is already excellent quality, with very few post-release iterations to products. This is a real benefit in such a fringe industry, since there are many brands that tend to release products that aren’t yet up to the quality standard we enjoy, resulting in post-purchase modifications and repairs.

These distinct characteristics are why we love to get 3D printers and supplies from Anycubic, as we know we can trust in more than just the quality of each machine, but also the excellent quality standard that each model will continue to live up to – for many years to come.
