As passionate 3D Makers and all-round fans of emerging technology, we always get excited when one of our Favourite Brands brings in a fresh new 3D Printer for us all to enjoy. This time is a little different though, and we’re more excited than usual with the introduction of the amazing new Creality CR-10 V2, which is a throwback to the original Creality CR-10 that we began stocking in 2017. However, this throwback has been equipped with more than just the basics of the original, and this model is a prime example of how the Creality Brand just continues to improve, refine, take in feedback and produce even better machines year after year.

This awesome new Creality CR-10 V2 has been designed to appear quite similar to the original CR-10, but has been armed with all of the very best features from the past few years of development, as well as some unique, cool features that we certainly weren’t expecting when we received our demo model. And while we did have some doubts about the seemingly old design style, we were simply blown away by just how fantastic the years of culminated experience and practice in the field has garnered Creality, and now, we are eager to let you know that we consider this new model to be the new Creality flagship, and possibly even the new benchmark that other manufacturers are going to have to live up to from 2020 onwards.

So, enough talk, let’s get straight into the action and take a closer look at precisely what makes the new Creality CR-10 V2 a step above all competing models, as well as why we think other brands are going to struggle to keep up with awesome new features that make the Creality CR-10 V2 one of our firm favourites alongside the Creality CR-10 MAX.

What are the Awesome New Features of the CR-10 V2?

As many of you probably know by now, we absolutely love getting in fresh new 3D Printers from our favourite brands. For this model, however, we are even more excited than usual, as the Creality CR-10 V2 is bringing some very cool new features to the forefront of Hobbyist 3D Printing. But let’s not waste any more time talking about how much we love this machine, and let’s get straight into the juicy details of what you can expect from the new Creality CR-10 V2:

  • Ultra-Quiet Motherboard & Drivers: With the recent trend to move towards more silent operations, it’s not surprising at all to see that this fresh new machine has been equipped with all of the necessary silent components by default, and this includes a brand new Creality V2.5.2 motherboard designed specifically for this machine. This means that you don’t have to get an entirely new board or stepper drivers to enjoy peace and quiet while you Make! And furthermore, the drivers installed on this board are the popular (and very reliable) TMC2208 Stepper Drivers, which are not only ready to deliver at a standard of quality, but can also be replaced relatively easily, without costing an arm or a leg, and without having to wait for international shipping or the SA postal service.

  • Optimised Hotend Cooling Solution: With the introduction of the Creality CR-10 V2, Creality have changed up their hotend cooling design, and have now introduced a unique dual-port cooling solution that utilises the sides of the hotend assembly so as to offer even better air flow and a higher degree of temperature control. Now, instead of the fan being on the front of the hotend assembly and the airflow simply seeping out of the top and bottom, the airflow now comes in through the side, gets swirled around the cooling tower, and then leaves through a grid in the front. Additionally, the blower fan is situated on the opposite side, where the new design ducts the airflow to “Dual Fangs”, which then provides part cooling from both sides. This has made a dramatic difference in cooling effect, offering not only better rates of cooling, but also even better quality than before as the part is evenly cooled, rather than just cooled on one side and left hot on the opposite side.

  • The Best Features from Past Models: For anyone who has been following Creality since we first started bringing in their original Creality CR-10, you will surely have seen that they have been improving throughout their time as leaders in the hobbyist 3D Printing market. Some of these improvements have been major, such as the Dual Z-Axis Leadscrew Design, while others have simply added to the convenience and enjoyment of 3D Printing, such as the Silent Motherboards or filament runout sensors. However, all of these improvements have been adding up over the years, and this becomes very obvious when seeing the plethora of great features from past models, all equipped on one machine and ready to deliver a high standard of quality. As such, you can expect all of the best features like print resume functionality, filament runout sensing, an all-metal extruder unit, and even the “Golden Triangle” Z-axis stabilisers – all squeezed into a beautiful package that is now even more affordable than the original Creality CR-10.

  • Interchangeable Bowden/Direct Drive Extruder: Although the features listed above are undoubtedly awesome, most of those are features that we’ve seen before from past models. However, one new feature that the Creality CR-10 V2 brings to the table, which we haven’t seen in any other 3D Printers, is the option to choose from either the classic Bowden Extruder style, or to switch over to a direct drive extruder setup. This is absolutely amazing, as it opens up a whole new level of potential for printing filaments that would typically be very frustrating to work with, such as Flexible Filaments or highly abrasive filaments like Carbon Fibre. Of course, because this model is focused both on functionality and an enticing price point, the direct drive extruder does need to be purchased separately. However, we feel that this is a good thing, since many Makers will choose not to use direct drive, and if that’s the case for you, then you don’t have to pay for parts that you’re not going to use, but you can still choose to upgrade later once you find yourself getting deeper into the world of 3D Printing and experimenting with newer or more exotic printing materials.

As you can see, despite being a throwback to the original Creality CR-10, the CR-10 V2 offers so many more features and improvements that it really differentiates itself in its own regard. And finally, in addition to the above features, an extra factor that is loved by some and hated by others is the separated control box. While some people really don’t like the “clunkiness” that it can add to a 3D Printer setup, we see this separate control box as a prime opportunity to create an enclosure for the printer, but without having the electronics within the enclosure. This is often overlooked, but is something that we value quite highly, especially since we print for more than just aesthetics, and we often like to use ABS, and other filaments requiring enclosures, for functional, durable and rugged prints too.

Our Final Verdict on The Creality CR-10 V2 3D Printer:

As you all know by now, we simply love receiving fresh new models of 3D Printers to evaluate and possibly stock, but this time has been somewhat extra special. This is in part due to the fact that it is a wonderful throwback to the classic Creality CR-10, which of course was the first Creality 3D Printer that we ever got in. However, the part that we’re even more excited about is the fact that it’s bringing an entirely new feature to hobbyist 3D Printing, and this is the fact that you can change between a Bowden extruder setup and direct drive extruder setup at will!

This interchangeable extruder setup is a genuine game-changer, as in the past, the first choice you would have to make when getting your first 3D Printer is whether you want direct drive or Bowden. Now, however, you can enjoy the best of both worlds without having to buy an entire secondary 3D Printer, which of means that you can now create amazing prints in a much wider range of different 3D Filaments, even including the flexiest of Flexible Filaments.

So, in conclusion, we simply can’t help but label the Creality CR-10 V2 3D Printer as the new benchmark for 2020, which all other manufacturers should now be striving to meet. Not only does it offer all of the very best features from the past few years of development, but it also brings a truly fresh new feature to the market. Additionally, while it offers a boat-load of cool features, it has also been designed with a hobbyist budget in mind, with an exceptionally low price point for the base machine, and optional extras for those who want to take their 3D Printing another step further.

Although Creality 3D have been working within the industry since 2014, their addition of the Creality CR-10 series is what really catapulted them to the front line of competition, as it offered substantially better quality compared to other 3D printers – while simultaneously reducing the cost and complexities of the machines.

The quality of Creality’s 3D Printers and accessories shows through in their market history, with the brand selling around 3000 printers in their first year on the market, followed by about 10,000 sales over the next year. Now, Creality easily sells around 30,000 or more 3D printers each year, with sales continuously rising as they bring out more models. These are impressive numbers when considering the fact that they entered the industry as unknown competitors, quickly rising through the ranks and now even competing with Wanhao and similar top brands.

If you are looking for excellent 3D Printers that offer affordability without compromising on quality, Creality 3D is certainly a brand that you should take note of. From the basic Creality Ender 2 all the way up to the large build volume Creality CR-10 S5, there are few other brands who are capable of offering such a refined package while still maintaining some of the most enticing prices in the industry.
