With DLP & SLA Printing becoming quite a popular alternative to FDM Printing, offering unique benefits and drawbacks that really differentiate the two styles of desktop fabrication, DLP & SLA technology has been developing at an increasingly rapid pace, with cool new features that have been slowly but effectively improving the overall quality that DLP Printers are capable of, while simultaneously boosting the user experience in terms of both convenience and ease of use. This has resulted in each and every new DLP Printer to bring some fresh new features to the table, and the Creality LD-006 is no exception, bringing a good range of both new and refined features that give it an edge in the market, and give Makers like you an edge in 3D Printing.

From the major upgrades like a greatly boosted print volume and dual linear guide rails, to the more subtle features like the dual carbon filtration fans and standoffs for the resin vat, the LD-006 is full of exciting surprises, and is both an excellent starter model for anyone who wants to get into DLP & SLA, as well as an awesome addition to a print farm or collection of DLP & SLA Printers for veterans who want to take advantage of the impressive build volume. Of course, just like any other 3D Resin Printer, it may take some tweaking and experimentation to get it dialled in just right, but unlike previous models, the LD-006 is actually easier to use, with clever little design features that eliminate some of the unnecessary frustrations, and overall we’ve found it to be one of the most enjoyable 3D Resin Printers that we’ve had the pleasure of using so far.

What Features make the Creality LD-006 So Amazing?

When comparing the Creality LD-006 to the previous Creality LD-002R and Creality LD-002H, it’s easy to see that there are a number of changes, tweaks and reiterations on the classic hardware, coupled with quite a big boost in overall size. Fortunately, the changes that the LD-006 feature are not just fluff though, and focus on both print quality as well as user experience so as to provide an all-inclusive exciting package for 3D Makers to really take full advantage of.

But enough teasing, let’s dive into the juicy details that we feel really differentiate this model from previous machines as well as alternatives on the market, and those which distinguish the LD-006 as a true competitor that’s ready to take on the best of the best:

  • Massive Build Volume with 8.9” Masking LCD – Upon first glance of this beautiful machine, it’s clear to see that the LD-006 is a lot larger than many DLP Printers on the market, featuring a huge build volume of 192 x 120 x 250mm for seriously large resin prints. However, in DLP & SLA, it’s not just the build volume that matters, and in order to support a larger build volume, you need a higher resolution display to maintain that excellent level of quality that DLP Printers are so famous for. Fortunately, this is precisely what Creality have done, and with a beefy 8.9-inch Monochrome LCD, the large build volume is perfectly complemented with the resolution you need to get the quality that you want. Furthermore, just to add some extra goodness on an already great feature, the masking display of the LD-006 is also a monochrome display, and this means that instead of displaying colour, it simply displays shade of dark and light. This, while being limited in typical applications, actually greatly extends the lifespan of the masking LCD, and whereas standard displays would only last around 600 to 800 hours before showing signs of wear, monochrome displays can last up to 2000 hours before wear and tear actually starts to show through.

  • Dual Linear Guide Rails – Because of the unique style of DLP & SLA Printing, and the way that models are “grown” upside down as each layer takes its turn to cure, Z-axis accuracy is actually an extremely important factor in determining print quality and overall print success. As experienced DLP & SLA Makers will know, even the slightest fault in this regard can not only cause faults in a print, but can actually cause the print to fall off the platform entirely as the cured resin layers may not adhere correctly and could separate with the suction force present when lifting the print out of the vat. This is why you often see linear guide rails being used alongside the classic leadscrew design, as this style keeps the print surface perfectly horizontal even if there are faults or slight bends in the leadscrew, and this typically helps to ensure not only great quality, but also helps to ensure that prints complete successfully, without falling into the vat or layer shifting as the Z-axis rises, and that’s why we’re eager to see Dual Linear Guide Rails to support the large build volume on the LD-006. Of course, some could easily argue that this is overkill, and that one linear guide rail could be enough, but we feel that dual rails help to ensure more consistency in quality and overall print success, then the extra helping hand with Z-axis precision is undoubtedly an excellent idea.

  • Elevated Print Platform to Protect LCD – Although we’ve seen and experimented with a relatively large range of different DLP & SLA Printers, the LD-006 offers a feature that we’ve never seen before, and has been built with a slightly raised resin vat to keep it just slightly off of the masking LCD. This helps to reduce overall strains and stresses on the masking LCD, while also preventing scratches and cracks on what may be the most important component on the whole machine, and ensures that your DLP Printer will continue to last for it’s full lifespan without a cracked screen cutting your fun short. Of course, while this doesn’t necessarily provide an improvement to print quality, we are always excited when small improvements like this can be made to help customers prevent mistakes and get more enjoyment out of their 3D Printers, and being able to change resins without ever having to stress about a cracked LCD is certainly a valuable feature that hasn’t flown under the radar for us.

Our Verdict on the New Creality LD-006 3D Printer:

Although there admittedly wasn’t too much difference between the previous LD-002R and LD-002H models, the updated features on the LD-006 are a lot more obvious, with most of them enticingly glaring at you from the moment you open the box. And while it’s definitely obvious that the LD-006 is a lot bigger than previous models, the untrained eye may not catch some of the finer upgrades and improvements that complement the awesomely large build volume that the LD-006 boasts. Fortunately though, as builders and suppliers of 3D Printers, we can confirm that the LD-006 is more than just talk, and brings real benefits to the table, and for this reason, we have to say that this is so far the best DLP 3D Printer that we’ve enjoyed using so far.

Overall, while the build volume of the LD-006 is not quite as large as some of the true powerhouse DLP Printers on the market, the full suite of fancy features that focus on both print quality and user experience are more valuable in our opinion, especially since the LD-006 is dramatically less expensive than those powerhouses. These features, coupled with the modestly massive build volume, tend to outshine DLP Printers that focus purely on build volume alone, and there is honestly almost nothing that we would to change, aside from maybe a swinging door rather than a lid-style enclosure. As such, it goes without saying that we highly recommend this beautiful 3D Printer for both veterans looking to expand their range of 3D Printers, as well as for beginners who are just starting out with DLP / SLA, and if you’ve been looking for a great 3D Printer that offers both brilliant print quality and a delightful user experience, there are few that can do it better than the Creality LD-006 DLP 3D Printer.

Of course, as with any new model, the LD-006 comes with a classic Creality Marketing Demo Video, detailing what they believe are the best features of the machine, with some cool graphics and CGI to add some extra insights and make it a little more exciting and engaging:
