When comparing different 3D Printers from various brands against each other, it’s not always easy to see exactly how they differ from each other, with many models looking extremely similar but just offering slightly different nuances and under-the-hood features. However, when looking at the BIQU BX 3D Printer from BigTreeTech/BIQU, it’s blatantly obvious that this model is not like the rest, with the massive display being the first noticeable change that always catches everyone off-guard. From there, some other distinct features that stand out include the carbon fibre style hydro-dipped trimmings, an extremely neat and tidy cable management solution, as well as the very impressive BIQU H2 Direct Drive Extruder/Hotend.

Under the hood, the BIQU BX 3D Printer also offers some very fancy features, and while they’re not obvious at first glance, once the machine starts and up and begins to lay down those layers, these undercover features become very apparent. This of course is precisely why we love BIQU 3D Printers, because in addition to being mechanically sound and well designed, the electronics and other supporting hardware are some of the best on the market, featuring the BigTreeTech controller board and stepper drivers that have taken the Hobbyist 3D Printing world by storm over just the past few years.

Which Features make the BIQU BX 3D Printer an Excellent Choice?

Now, it’s quite difficult to pinpoint precisely what’s brilliant about the BIQU BX, but that’s not because of a lack of features, and is in fact the exact opposite, offering so many fantastic features that it’s almost impossible to select just a few. With that in mind, lets take a look at the key factors that we believe are the cream of the crop for the BIQU BX, and which give it a big lead over competitors that is definitely going to be tough to beat:

  • BIQU SKR SE-BX Motherboard with TMC2226 – When it comes to BIQU and BigTreeTech, it’s never a surprise when their machines and equipment come preinstalled with incredible, top-of-the-line motherboards that are capable of so much more than a typical 3D Printer Controller. However, with the SKR SE-BX, BIQU have stepped up their game to ensure that this machine trumps the competition, with a 32-bit 400MHz processor and an exceptional level of thought and engineering going into the design. In fact, this motherboard even features reverse polarity protection for the stepper drivers, which is something we’ve never before seen on any budget level machine, ensuring that even if you plug your drivers in the wrong way, the board can detect this and help prevent damage. On top of this, the SKR SE-BX also features some really fancy minor and major upgrades all over the place, offering space for all of the classic upgrades like WiFi, power resume functionality, filament break detection and more, as well as some more unique extras such as CAN BUS support, as well as native support for Raspberry Pi Boards on the back of the display, making software like OctoPrint an absolute piece of cake to integrate, setup and start printing remotely from.

  • Equipped with BX H2 DDS Hotend – Although we have been very impressed with the amazing features of the BIQU H2 Hotend, and how they have managed to fit all of that goodness in a tiny and lightweight package, we never quite realised just how popular it would become, with many different content creators praising it highly and placing it near the top in terms of extruder and hotend designs for hobbyists. Fortunately though, this is for good reason, since it really is an exceptional hotend, and having one installed on the BIQU BX 3D Printer is without a doubt one of the most exciting features on the entire machine. Not only does it offer powerful direct drive extruding directly from the hotend carriage, but it also has a beautifully design with excellent quality parts like a strong, custom and lightweight motor, high-grip dual drive gears, and mounting points that can accommodate an incredibly wide range of different 3D Printers – all in a neat, tidy and effective compact form factor.

  • Extremely Neat & Tidy Design – While newcomers to the 3D Printing world may not quite realise, 3D Printers used to be quite difficult to build, often comprising of a box full of parts, nuts and bolts that users would have to fit together and assemble manually. Fortunately, that’s soon becoming a thing of the past, and new models like the BIQU BX are now being supplied partially pre-assembled, so all you have to do is fit the large assemblies together to build the 3D Printer in just a matter of minutes. This neat and tidy assembly perfectly complements the elegant style of the 3D Printer, which features a large but relatively simple touch screen interface on the front, electronics that are tucked away and out of sight, and simplified cabling and wiring solutions such as a single HDMI cable for the hotend. These features culminate together to do an excellent job at getting rid of clutter, and presenting only the most beautiful and elegant aspects of the machine for you and fellow Creatives and Makers to enjoy.

  • Massive Multi-Mode Full Colour Display – When looking for a new 3D Printer, or anything else for that matter, it’s often difficult to ignore the natural “bigger is better” idea that we get stuck in our heads, and sometimes as users we can even fall victim to paying a little too much just for that extra size that we likely won’t really use. Fortunately, with the BIQU BX, you can enjoy the best of both worlds, as even with a nicely sized build volume and what may just be the biggest display on any 3D Printer that we’ve ever seen, these large and in charge features don’t necessarily make this machine more expensive, and BIQU have done an exceptional job at keeping the price attractively low while still offering enticing features.

With so many key features fighting for centre-stage, it can be tough to look past those and see what else this beautiful machine offers. However, while not being key features, the BIQU BX is certainly loaded with an amazing range of “minor” features  as well, and this includes things like a titanium alloy heat break, Stepper Drivers with built-in sensorless homing, dual leadscrews driven by 0.9° steppers, a reliable and powerful Mean Well PSU, as well as LED lights along the top bar that react to current printing progress, changing colour as the machine heats up and when it finishes a print. This is all complemented with small quality of life features like a silkscreen print of the controller board and connectors, neat and tidy single-cable style connections, and other small features that simply add towards the overall user experience of the BIQU BX.

Note: If you are using Raspberry Pi / OctoPrint or other remote printing solutions, then You need to ensure that you plug in the SD Card after the machine has booted up into RPi mode, as the display unit can sometimes reset during bootup if the SD Card is plugged in when switching between Pi Mode and other modes.

Our Final Verdict on the BIQU BX 3D Printer:

With some extremely impressive major features that blow the socks off of competing models, as well as host of fantastic minor features to make 3D Printing easier, more enjoy and more efficient – as well as some quality of life features to add to the overall experience – there may only be a handful of 3D Printers on the market right now that can beat the genuine value that the BIQU BX offers. In fact, from our experience, a 3D Printer with this many features built in (and with such a huge multi-mode display as well!) should cost at least two times the price that the BIQU BX is being offered for, and we’re finding it more and more difficult to recommend any other models within the same price range.

However, with that being said, we must be honest and say that we just wish it had a larger build volume, although with so many great features all packed into an affordable and good quality package, we feel like asking for even more would simply be greedy. Fortunately though, while a lot of people look at large build volumes and can’t help but want the largest volume possible for their prints, the truth is that a large majority of 3D Makers don’t even actually use the full space of a 300x300mm or larger 3D Printer. As such, we feel that the BIQU BX quite literally offers the perfect package for both beginners and veterans – as well as everyone in between – and we strongly believe that you will never be disappointed if you choose the BIQU BX over other models.

So, as a final verdict, if you are a 3D Maker who definitely knows that you will need a larger build volume than just 250x250x250mm, then you may want to consider looking at the Creality CR-10 MAX or similar larger format machines. However, for anyone else, the BIQU BX offers more than enough volume for a large majority of items that you will likely want to print, and at such an incredible level of value for money, the BIQU BX should be a near-impossible to ignore model that clearly outshines a vast number of hobbyist 3D Printers that are available to 3D Makers right now.

BIQU BX 3D Printer

BIQU BX 3D Printer

Although many people may not quite recognise the name, BIQU is a fantastic brand that originated as BigTreeTech, and began their journey in the 3D Printing world by creating motherboards and other electronics that were made to enhance the functionality, ease of use and overall capabilities of other 3D Printers. However, after gaining a firm popularity as some the leaders in 3D Upgrades, they have also now branched off and created BIQU, a brand dedicated to creating entire 3D Printers for hobbyists like us.

Compared to many of the brands on the market, what we particularly love about BIQU is the way that their models come fully equipped with all of the exciting BigTreeTech controller boards, stepper drivers and other awesome components that are typically installed into other 3D Printers as powerful upgrades. These include the popular SKR motherboards, the BTT TMC Drivers, BTT TFT displays and other minor (but still valuable) upgrades that are often installed on Creality 3D Printers, but since these “upgrades” come stock on BIQU 3D Printers, you can enjoy even more reliable operations and functionality due to the fact that their machines are built specifically with their own boards and components in mind. This has resulted in BIQU creating some of the leading 3D Printers on the market, which don’t need any upgrades or improvements to match the quality of leading brands, and with many of the BIQU models actually surpassing the quality and capabilities of most other Hobbyist 3D Printers on the market.

If you love the idea of upgrading 3D Printers with all kinds of fun and functional upgrades, but aren’t too interested in getting a basic model that you have to actually upgrade yourself, the BIQU range of 3D Printers is the answer, bringing excellent quality coupled with all of the current best features available to 3D Makers.
