Timekeeping has always been a slightly odd concept to wrap the mind around, as the notion of time is both a measurable variable as well as a man-made concept, depending on the context. And while time can be certainly experienced in very different ways by different people, the measurable variable is consistent, and is actually consistent enough to time thousands or sometimes even millions of calculations or processes with near-perfect precision.

The RTC PCF8563 Real Time Clock I2C Module is a simple but very useful little Electronics Module that has been designed to keep time via a consistently vibrating 32.768kHz crystal oscillator, so as to provide a real time clock for almost any electronics projects. It operates on an easy 2-wire I2C interface with support for cascading multiple modules together, offering a full 24-hour clock and calendar, as well as onboard timer functionality for count-downs and alarms. This is ideal for a wide range of applications from Hobby Electronics and microcontroller projects all the way through to system clock control for industrial machinery

The final key feature of this RTC module is that the clock frequencies can be adjusted via the CLKOUT pin to cater to a range of different applications. With a default frequency of 32.768kHz for standard applications, this module can also be adjusted down to 1024Hz, 32Hz and even 1Hz, which all offer distinct benefits when working with various appliances and components such as Microcontrollers, charge pumps and system clocks, while also being very useful for calibrating and testing of the module itself.

Please Note: Because of the international problems with shipping batteries, these models may not come with an included battery. Fortunately, these batteries are inexpensive and easily available from chemists and other local stores.
