Whether driving in vehicles, washing clothes, messaging friends on mobile devices or simply chilling in an airconditioned room, we tend to rely a lot on motors on modern life without ever even realising it, as these marvellous tools help to turn electrical energy into mechanical force, motion, movement and even vibration, enhancing our lives in various ways and helping us avoid unnecessary hard work. This is why we love adding new motors to our category with every chance we can get, with these DFRobot 9g Metal Servo Motors with Analog Feedback being one of the more recent (and exciting) additions to our list.

These Servo Motors are unique compared to most models on the market, as these offer a specialised extra signal wire that is capable of delivering analogue feedback. This helps the microcontroller or user understand precisely where the motor is situated in its 180° rotation, allowing for automated repositioning and correction in a close-loop feedback control system, while also acting as an extra “sense” for the user or MCU to utilise in order to enjoy more effective and more efficient operations – without the need for external sensors.

In terms of the technical properties of these motors, they are designed with full metal gearing for fantastic durability, with a relatively impressive holding torque of up to 1.5kg. They can be operated on as little as 4.8V or as high as 6V DC, and the analogue feedback signal ranges between 0V and 3.3V DC depending of course on the position of the motor. These seemingly simple features actually make this a particularly advanced servo motor when compared to many others on the market, and we can see it being used in all kinds of different ways for fun Hobbyist Electronics projects, but also for various other motor and sensing related applications too.

As self-proclaimed “Robo-holics”, DFRobot is a company comprised of over 100 staff members, of which 30% are engineers who love to build robots. It was started in 2008 with the goal of embracing and promoting open-source hardware, with a core focus on Arduino, Raspberry Pi and their very own LattePanda development boards. Since then, DFRobot have manufactured over 1300 unique modules, sensors and components that all work together and complement each other, allowing users like us to enjoy a full spectrum of cutting edge robotics and electronics without having to pay premium prices.

With the primary goal of developing and manufacturing great quality products, while making them accessible to as many people as possible, DFRobot are rapidly becoming one of the most common-place brands in the world of open-source robotics and electronics. With more than 1300 products developed in-house, and an impressive range of different categories and specialisations, there are few brands in the world who can compete in terms of quality, accessibility and genuine innovation.
