Arduino Mega Proto Shield

As an Arduino Maker or electronics enthusiast, there are few better ways to truly start experimenting and prototyping than by designing your own circuits on an Arduino Mega Proto Shield. Built to meet the form factor of the powerful Arduino Mega Boards, the purpose of this Proto Shield is for you to design your very own Shield, which will be able to modularly plug directly onto the top of your Arduino Mega or other Arduino Shields.

Although the Arduino Mega Proto Shield doesn’t come with any components included, it is often considered in the Maker community to be the equivalent of a large blank canvas, on which almost any circuit or components can be added. Thus, you can choose to give it new and unique functionality or to make it function like other already existing Shields – except of course with your own personal customisations included.

These boards are often used in conjunction with solderless breadboards before a final design is decided upon. This allows you to build and modify circuits until you’ve found the ideal layout, and then make the permanent soldering of components onto the actual board once you know that the design is working as intended.

Typical Applications for the Arduino Mega Proto Shield:

The primary purpose of this Arduino Mega Proto Shield is for designing and Prototyping new Shields and Breakout Boards, although it’s certainly not limited to only those types of boards in the hands of a true Maker. As such, you could enjoy a wide variety of projects with this PCB, including:

• Designing a Shield or Breakout Board that caters to your projects unique needs, which can both save on costs and provide the functionality you need without unnecessary extras.
• Building a Sonar Shield, which can act as a digital “tape-less” tape measure, a proximity sensor or an alarm when attached to a basic Arduino – with some coding of course.

This PCB is also offered in our Arduino Mega Proto Shield Kit, which includes a variety of resistors, buttons and other components. These are designed to complement the PCB and allow you to begin your prototyping adventures.
