Building your own solar solution is always an exciting prospect, especially since we have been hearing about solar for many years now, only to be disappointed at the incredulously high prices in the past. However, this is becoming a thing of the past, and Solar Power is becoming far more accessible and affordable than ever before. And with this in mind, it makes sense that a lot of people are finally venturing into the world of renewable energies, with some people even removing themselves from the grid and living solely on renewable energy like solar, wind and even hydro based power solutions depending on where they live.

This is why we love the relatively simple but very effective CMP12 12V/24V Solar Power Manager & Charge Controller, as it is capable of supporting and managing a 12V or 24V solar solution, offering a wide range of different protection features for the Batteries, loads and even the controller itself. These features help to ensure a long-lasting solar solution that requires very little maintenance, as the batteries will be kept in great working order, without ever being overcharged, undercharged or otherwise damaged from various forms of mismanaged power input and output. And just to add some extra convenience to an already great package, this module is auto-switching between 12V and 24V systems, with a relatively wide solar input range of up to 25V for 12V systems, or 36V for 24V systems.

As a final note, although this is certainly an awesome charge controller for renewable energies like solar, wind and even Hydro-generated power, this unit does have a quiescent current draw of around 10mA to 15mA, which means that you need to be producing more than that in order to actually charge the connected batteries. This is why it’s primarily stocked for 12V/24V high power renewable energy solutions, and it may not give the best results for small hobbyist-oriented Solar Panels. However, with that being said, if you’re looking for power managers for smaller setups, be sure to take a look through our dedicated Solar Power Managers section to see which would be cater to your unique renewable energy system.

Note: This should not be confused with the BSV20A Model, which looks nearly identical but has been designed for a higher 20A current. This version is more affordable, and we feel it hits the sweet spot of attractive pricing vs functionality.

Typical Applications for this 12V/24V Power Manager & Charge Controller:

This CMP12 12V/24V Solar Power Manager & Charge Controller is awesome if you love the idea of becoming independent from Eskom, as it helps to actually manage the incoming power from Solar Panels and other renewable energy sources, while protecting your batteries and ensuring as little wear and tear (as well as maintenance) as possible. This is more important than many people realize, especially if you are focused on the cost-saving features rather than the ecological features of renewable energies, as batteries can be a very expensive part of a solar solution, and bad charging management can drastically reduce their lifespans – completely counteracting the cost-savings of solar energy.
