Built for high torque at high speeds, stepper drivers use current loop subdivision control to ensure very low motor torque ripple and very smooth operation to achieve the best positional accuracy. These clever modules, well, drive the stepper motors within your typical Maker machines, including 3D printers, CNC machines, and laser engravers, as well as a multitude of other mechanically driven devices. A great stepper motor driver impacts the overall quality of your machine’s output.

The DM556 Stepper Motor Driver is a powerful 2-phase PWM constant current driver, designed to provide 8 level adjustable output current of 1.0A to 5.6A. It offers a nice wide control voltage range, from as low as 5V to as high as 24V, allowing it to be operated from a dedicated CNC Controller Board, or simply from a little microcontroller like an Arduino Board. A low speed zero vibration and low noise feature on this handy motor driver. The optical isolation input signal allows for a pulse response frequency up to 200 KHz. Strong anti-interference capability helps ensure the high precision positioning of your machine’s stepper motors. The DM566 is fit for 42/57 stepper motors, widely used in CNC machines and engravers.

The DM566 Stepper Motor Driver also comes with an automatic anti-overheating mechanism called a idle current reduction function, in which it reduces the current of the circuit by 50% when the motor hasn’t moved for 1 second. Additionally, it is recommended to leave about 20mm of space around the unit clear, so as to ensure efficient heat dispersion and to avoid heat-related problems.

DIP Pins SW1 to SW3: Current Settings Chart

Each different type of motor will have different current input requirements, which is why the SW1, SW2 and SW3 DIP switches are designed to adjust output current. When setting these, try to accommodate your motors’ requirements as closely as possible.
