It’s quite great to live in a modern world where Battery Charging methods are advancing and helping us keep our devices powered for longer, while reducing charging times and all the while providing better battery care and management. However, while we Makers love to know all about the cool Quick Charge, Fast Charge and Adaptive Charge techniques being used, it’s often quite a difficult task to actually test these, since the power chips on both the PSU/charger and the device needs to communicate and negotiate the right power requirements, and therefore you can’t simply measure the output on the cable. This is what makes inline testers so valuable in the workshop or office of any Maker, as inline testers can measure the power passing through them, allowing the chips on either side to negotiate the best charging techniques to use, and provide devices with optimal power requirements for both fast and safe battery charging and powering – while measuring precisely what’s happening throughout.
The Riden UM34 USB 3.0 Tester is one such fantastic inline USB Testing tool that is capable of Testing and Measuring not just USB A, but also USB Type-C as well, with an extra Micro USB Port that can even measure the impedance of cables. The UM34 is a compact little tool that can measure voltage, current, total power draw, charge capacity, as well as specific charging and powering techniques being used, including the classic QC2.0 and QC3.0, Apple Fast Charging, Android DCP, and of course Samsung Adaptive Fast Charging too. This makes it an extremely versatile tool for anyone who loves experimenting and playing with low power Electronics that typically utilise USB for powering and charging, and due to the inline style, the UM34 can do all of this while the chargers, power supplies and devices are operating just as they’re designed.
