While the term “CAN Bus” may be quite exotic to many Makers out there in the hobbyist scene, the select few of us who are brave (or crazy) enough to go deep into network Communications between varying systems will know that CAN Bus is a vital protocol for effective networking. This is why we feel it’s important to stock reliable CAN Bus tools like this USB-CAN Analyzer, which is designed specifically as a low-cost tool for analysing, testing, maintaining and managing CAN Bus networks, as well as sending, receiving and analysis of CAN data as well – all from a simple application on your personal computer or laptop.

Despite the complex functionality, this awesome USB-CAN Analyzer is basically a USB to CAN adapter, which works alongside the desktop application to grab CAN data, while offering basic send and receive functionality as well. It does this by turning your laptop or computer into a node on the CAN network, and supports both the 11-bit CAN2.0A standard identifiers as well as the 29-bit CAN2.0B Expanded identifiers, allowing you to connect to both major styles of CAN Bus networks.

So, with all of these great features, all you simply have to do is connect up to the module via the included USB to USB Micro cable, install the application (featured in the “Downloads” section above or in the “Additional Resources” section below) and begin testing, maintaining, managing and analysing the data.

Please Note: This module features an included jumper that connects the two pins on the edge. This jumper activates a 120Ω terminating resistor, which is the common standard for CAN Bus networks. For more information in this regard, this CAN Physical Layer and Termination Guide does an excellent job at explaining why this terminating resistor is necessary.
