Please Note: eSun has recently changed their filament spool material. You may receive a cardboard spool, instead of the plastic spools depicted above. This move means a more environmentally friendly design to their 3D filament spools which comfortably sit on your 3D printer's standard spool holder for smooth filament feeding.

Amongst the wide range of 3D printing filament types, this strange and unique eSun eTPU-95A filament changes colour! Multicolour filaments are always beautiful and create striking printed models. What if your sleek red print changes colour the moment you touch it? The eSun Colour Change eTPU-95A is a specialised thermoplastic polyurthane polymer that reacts to low and high temperatures. On top of this different and cool feature, this filament is designed with flexibility in mind with a hardness rating of 95 Shore A, which is a lot harder than typical “Flexible” filaments. Instead of being flexible like the sole of a flip-flop, this hard flexibility is more focused on adding impact resistance and enhanced durability that PLA Filaments simply can’t achieve.

This 1kg spool of eSun eTPU-95A Colour Change Filament appears red at first, but the moment you press it to your finger or pour some warm water over it, your print magically turns orange/yellow. This colour changing filament stays comfortably red at low temperatures, but reacts to warmth higher that 28°C. Despite this uniqueness, eSun eFlex prints at similar specifications to Standard PLA Filament. Just remember that with flexible filaments you need to apply slightly higher heat than usual, while running the print at a lower speed than most other 3D Filaments. This will prevent the filament from pulling off of the lower layers while printing, resulting in great prints that are both durable and flexible. eSun eTPU has a 95A shore hardness, strong flexibility, high resilience, and wear resistance. Makers widely use TPU in sports equipment, industrial parts, shoe materials supplies, auto parts, and other practical uses.

While TPU is typically designed with a high elongation and low hardness for high flexibility, this semi-flex eTPU-95A filament is designed for engineering applications rather than aesthetics, with this particular shore hardness commonly being used for roller skates and skateboard wheels. Except now your prints can colour change! A TPU band around your coffee cup will shift colours the moment you pour in your hot water. Leave temporary fingerprints on your phone's new TPU cover. The possible applications range from fun silly colour changing prints to real functional parts that may warn you of something hot before you burn yourself.

Typical Applications for eSUN eTPU-95A Filament:

With the unique properties of eTPU-95A, this filament is often used for very unique applications, but rather than making stretchable, bendable toys or flexible prints, this “Flexible” filament is instead designed for high impact resistance and low levels of deformation upon exposure to mechanical stresses.

With that in mind, projects that utilise this filament include:

  • Printing impact deflector plates and durable gear for mini robot battles.
  • Designing unique phone cases that offer protection while maintaining a softer tactile feel with more grip.
  • Building an entire bikini like Naomi “SexyCyborg” Wu – who then modelled it and successfully tested it in water.

Whether you want to print toys, fashion accessories or any other objects that can benefit from the impact resistance that this flexible filament offers, there are few other filaments that can achieve such a high quality print with all of these fantastic characteristics.

Shenzhen eSUN Industrial Co., Ltd was established in 2002 in Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and has rapidly become one of the leading international suppliers of 3D Printing Filament. They specialise in research, development and production of degradable polymer materials, and have grown their catalogue of filaments to include PLA, ABS, PC, PVA, and a wide range of other polymers and copolymers.

Their list of exclusive filament formulas include unique materials like wood, aluminium, bronze and other materials to create highly specialised filaments that can stretch, bend, be moulded or otherwise behave in very unique ways. Their filaments are also commonly characterised by their absolutely round shape, extremely low diameter tolerance, uniform colours and impressively stable melting points. These characteristics, in combination with their long-term insistent policy of “Best Quality, Reasonable Price” has garnered them a large share of the market, with their reputation commonly preceding them within knowledgeable online and offline 3D Printing communities.

eSUN’s popularity in the industry has also helped to produce sustainable partnerships with many internationally famous 3D Printer manufacturers and distributors, with DIYElectronics having sole distributorship rights to provide their 3D Printing Filaments to South Africa and neighbouring African countries.
