When it comes to specialised polymers and 3D Filaments, nobody does it better than eSUN, and they’ve proven it once again with their new eSUN eASA Filament, which is somewhat similar to ABS but has the double bond butadiene replaced with Acrylic Rubber. This results in a polymer that is incredibly resistant to weather, UV light and temperatures, with eSUN claiming that it’s even on par with some of the engineering plastics used in professional industries.
The introduction of this polymer is amazing news for hobbyists, as it allows us to build high strength parts without having to pay excessive amounts for injection moulding or similar services. And just to add the cherry on top of the already-tasty sundae, this Exotic Filament is also naturally anti-static, making it a great choice for robust electronics enclosures that can withstand impressive forces and weathering, while also being dust-resistant too!

When printing with this unique ASA filament, there are a few extra notes that you should take into consideration before starting. This is because ASA is polymerised with very similar materials to ABS Filament, but has been made without the double bond butadiene, which means it offers better weather, temperature and UV resistance, but may require some extra care during the printing process to enjoy good results. As such, it’s prudent to keep the following in mind:
Despite these unique requirements and extra considerations, eASA is an excellent polymer that is surprisingly close to an Engineering-quality plastic. And while it may take a few tries to get just right, you will certainly be pleased with the results once you have your printer dialled to accommodate the unique properties of ASA.

Shenzhen eSUN Industrial Co., Ltd was established in 2002 in Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and has rapidly become one of the leading international suppliers of 3D Printing Filament. They specialise in research, development and production of degradable polymer materials, and have grown their catalogue of filaments to include PLA, ABS, PC, PVA, and a wide range of other polymers and copolymers.
Their list of exclusive filament formulas include unique materials like wood, aluminium, bronze and other materials to create highly specialised filaments that can stretch, bend, be moulded or otherwise behave in very unique ways. Their filaments are also commonly characterised by their absolutely round shape, extremely low diameter tolerance, uniform colours and impressively stable melting points. These characteristics, in combination with their long-term insistent policy of “Best Quality, Reasonable Price” has garnered them a large share of the market, with their reputation commonly preceding them within knowledgeable online and offline 3D Printing communities.
eSUN’s popularity in the industry has also helped to produce sustainable partnerships with many internationally famous 3D Printer manufacturers and distributors, with DIYElectronics having sole distributorship rights to provide their 3D Printing Filaments to South Africa and neighbouring African countries.
