The real power of PVA filament lies in its focused design to be a water-soluble 3D filament. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) polymers are made with the same material in the detergent pods you use for laundry. As it hits warm water, PVA dissolves to nothing over a few hours. While this is a horrible plastic to print bath toys with, SunLu PVA filament has an incredible and specific use as dissolvable supports in 3D printing. Strech the capabilities of your 3D printer and print the impossible. Even if your model finishes within a brick of support structures, you can painlessly dissolve them all away leaving a pristine smooth print behind.
SunLu PVA Filament is made as the perfect companion to printing complex PLA models with dissolvable supports. These two filaments work together so well because PVA has similar printing parameters to PLA filament, allowing your printer to easily switch between the two using a dual extruder system. Printing your supports with PVA filament opens many awesome opportunities for taking your 3D printing game to the next level. Extreme overhangs and technically difficult details on prints are worries of the past. Print these impossible models without resulting in the common sagging or drooping problems that they would typically fall victim to. SunLu PVA Filament is ready to allow you to bypass those pesky laws of gravity and enjoy true creative freedom for all of your designs and creations.

Although there’s technically nothing stopping you from using PVA filaments for standard 3D printing, PVA is most commonly used for building temporary struts and scaffolds in 3D printing, allowing Makers to produce complex prints with thin structures, large overhangs, as well as extremely complex and difficult fine details. After the print is complete, the entire print can then be submerged and left in hot water of up to 60°C to dissolve the struts without damaging or negatively affecting the main components of the print. This results in far better quality and more technically complex prints with substantially less droop, sag or similar problems, and is genuinely one of the easiest and most value-adding filaments that we’ve enjoyed using so far. It’s not often that you find a material that can be used to enhance the quality of other materials in 3D printing, and over time, we’ve developed quite a fondness towards this filament for exactly that reason.

Although it may not be a popular brand here in SA (yet!), many 3D Makers will recognise the name SunLu, as these fantastic 3D Filament Makers have been involved in 3D Printing since as far back as 2013, specialising in affordability & accessibility, but placing a strong focus on R&D & bringing new materials to the market for 3D Makers to enjoy.
From the classic PLA & ABS range through to the more exotic styles like PETG & TPU, as well as what we like to call Semi-Exotics like Marble & Twinkling Filament, SunLu has garnered a lot of experience in the world of 3D Filaments, & have one of the most comprehensive catalogues that the Hobbyist 3D Printing world has ever seen. This gives them a good spot amongst the leaders in 3D Filaments, & while they may not quite match the premium quality of Fillamentum & other high class brands, the affordability & range of options that SunLu offers is simply unbeatable even for the major players.
If you’re looking for a good brand to use for all kinds of different prints & applications, but don’t want to pay a premium, SunLu is the ideal brand that is ready to become your next new favourite.
