Please Note: eSun has recently changed their filament spool material. You may receive a cardboard spool, instead of the plastic spools depicted above. This move means a more environmentally friendly design to their 3D filament spools which comfortably sit on your 3D printer's standard spool holder for smooth filament feeding.
When it comes to Unique and Exotic Filaments, there are few brands who can offer the diverse selection that eSUN does while still maintaining impressive tolerances and consistencies throughout each spool. One such excitingly unique polymer that they produce is eSUN ePEEK Filament, which is polymerised from Polyether Ether Ketone, which is a crystalline polymer that offers incredibly high temperature resistance and durability, with the added benefit of being ultra-lightweight. This makes it ideal for high-intensity applications like aeroplane and aerospace parts, as well as within medicine – all of which require a high strength to weight ratio.
These spools of naturally Beige-coloured eSUN ePEEK Filament offer a 1.75mm diameter, and weigh in at 0.25kg. This low quantity is primarily the result of high costs associated with PEEK materials and processing, but because this filament is designed for very specialised prints, you can expect to use it very seldomly, and often only when the need arises.
ePEEK: A Highly Specialised Polymer
Because PEEK is a very specialised material, it is typically not possible to print this filament on standard Desktop or Hobbyist 3D Printers, and will require a specialised “High-Temperature 3D Printer” with a full convection-heated enclosure, 400°C capable hotend assembly, as well as a good general design to keep the electronics and other parts away from the high temperatures. However, a few very experienced and savvy Makers have been able to convert their desktop 3D printers into high-temp printers, but this is not only difficult, and can also be costly, so if you’re unsure at all about whether you could do the conversion, it may be a better idea to simply utilise easier filaments with similar capabilities instead.

Typical Applications for eSUN ePEEK Filament:
While the large majority of 3D Printing hobbyists won’t be able to reach the high hotend, heatbed and enclosure temperatures, this material has exceptionally impressive qualities due to it’s incredibly high strength and ultra-low weight. Because of these properties, it is actually very sought-after within aerospace, aviation, medicine and other extremely demanding industries. Within these industries, PEEK offers the ideal blend of durability and performance while maintaining a low weight, making it perfect for parts on shuttles and aeroplanes, or even for replacement bones in human bodies.
So, if you are the proud owner of a “High-Temperature 3D Printer” or plan to create your own custom printer specially designed for PEEK filament, eSUN ePEEK Filament may be an exciting new adventure for you to experiment with and explore the capabilities. Just remember that this is one of the most demanding 3D Filaments in the entire world, which of course means you will also have to do a lot of research on the printing and post-print processes, as well as pre-print preparations that are all required to enjoy repeatably good results.

Shenzhen eSUN Industrial Co., Ltd was established in 2002 in Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and has rapidly become one of the leading international suppliers of 3D Printing Filament. They specialise in research, development and production of degradable polymer materials, and have grown their catalogue of filaments to include PLA, ABS, PC, PVA, and a wide range of other polymers and copolymers.
Their list of exclusive filament formulas include unique materials like wood, aluminium, bronze and other materials to create highly specialised filaments that can stretch, bend, be moulded or otherwise behave in very unique ways. Their filaments are also commonly characterised by their absolutely round shape, extremely low diameter tolerance, uniform colours and impressively stable melting points. These characteristics, in combination with their long-term insistent policy of “Best Quality, Reasonable Price” has garnered them a large share of the market, with their reputation commonly preceding them within knowledgeable online and offline 3D Printing communities.
eSUN’s popularity in the industry has also helped to produce sustainable partnerships with many internationally famous 3D Printer manufacturers and distributors, with DIYElectronics having sole distributorship rights to provide their 3D Printing Filaments to South Africa and neighbouring African countries.
