3D Printed outdoor parts for your garden, security camera or smart doorbell must stand up to the radiant South African sun and flash stormy weather. As avid Makers, we know the pain of constantly reprinting replacements when a functional outdoor print fails, yet again. The elements are powerful forces to stand up against. Usually, ABS is up to the job for most prints needing an extra oomph of strength, but a spinoff filament called ASA offers even more endurance. Fillametum ASA Filament offers long-term resistance against UV light, heat, and water so that it maintains its colour and shape continually. You don’t want the colour to fade from your awesome outdoor furniture, or your electronics housing to wither away under the sun.
Fillamentum ASA Filament offers a vibrant colour range that withstands the outside elements and is slightly easier to print than ABS. This Snow White Fillamentum ASA offers vibrant bright white with an elegant smooth finish. The high-resistance applications of ASA filament lend well to functional parts that are left to the mercy of the sun. Makers use ASA for outdoor purposes, crafting cool garden gadgets like a hosepipe y-splitter, stylish sprinkler heads and soil moisture sensors, which stay under the sun for long periods without discolouring. And just to add the cherry on top of the already-tasty sundae, this Exotic Filament is also naturally anti-static, making it a great choice for robust Electronics enclosures that can withstand impressive forces and weathering, while being dust-resistant too!
With a core focus on ensuring precision consistency in every spool produced, Fillamentum has rightfully garnered a position as one of the top suppliers of 3D Filaments throughout the world. This amazing brand also offers a vibrant range of Fillamentum ABS to the more intriguing styles of Fillamentum Exotics like the Timberfill Range. Fillamentum is not only passionate about quality but is actually capable of delivering on this promise each and every time, without fail. Regardless of what Fillamentum Polymers you’re choosing for your next project, you can expect excellent results with each and every one.
Like ABS, Fillamentum ASA requires higher printing temperatures and an enclosure to ensure smooth polished results. Fortunately, these few printability drawbacks are less finnicky, but ASA still requires careful calibration. Your 3D Printer will need a few upgrades, such as an all metal hotend to reach 260°C and an enclosure to keep the heat inside. ASA filament is considered a step up in difficulty level than the beginner-friendly Fillamentum PLA filament. However, when you’ve got the knack of it, Fillamentum ASA is sure to become your new favourite for any outdoor projects.

When printing with this unique ASA filament, there are a few extra notes that you should take into consideration before starting. This is because ASA is polymerised with very similar materials to ABS Filament, but has been made without the double bond butadiene, which means it offers better weather, temperature and UV resistance. Because of its awesome finished features, ASA filaments require some extra care during the printing process to enjoy good results. The recommended printing settings in the table above supplies the temperatures you will need for printing. And it’s prudent to also keep the following in mind:
Despite these unique requirements and extra considerations, ASA is an excellent polymer that is surprisingly close to an Engineering-quality plastic. And while it may take a few tries to get just right, you will certainly be pleased with the results once you have your printer dialed to accommodate the unique properties of ASA.

Starting in as early as 2013, but with roots that go even further than that, Fillamentum is a brand that actually began working in the automotive industry, before moving into the packaging industry, and then eventually arriving in (and specialising in) 3D printing, where they found their true passion. And as a company that has always placed a high priority on following innovation, they took to 3D printing like a fish to water, and since 2013, have been consistently introducing fresh new innovations to the industry in the form of new types of polymers, refinements to classic polymers, as well as hybrid polymers that blend in materials like wood for distinctively unique effects.
What we really love about Fillamentum and their awesome 3D filaments range, is that they offer true consistency even between hundreds or thousands of batches. In fact, they actually match many of their colours to specifically defined Pantones and RAL colours, which are universal colour standards that artists, designers and many other professionals commonly use for precision colour coordination. This of course is complemented by their consistent quality, with an impressive (and tested) 0.05mm tolerance throughout each spool, as well as consistent results from various colours across multiple batches during our own testing phases.
As a brand that clearly demonstrates its passion for 3D printing through it’s beautiful 3D filaments, we’ve been exceptionally impressed with Fillamentum, and we certainly won’t be too surprised if Fillamentum becomes your new favourite 3D filament for all occasions.
