Although many of us Makers have enjoyed the delights of LEDs & Lighting for various projects or just for personalisation and customisation of spaces and things, it’s great to know that there are still great developments happening within the world of LEDs, and that means that our LED adventures are certainly not over, and there will likely always be new LEDs and other fun goodies to play and experiment with, and to use in all of the weird, whacky and wonderful ways that we do. These SK6812 LED Strips are perfect examples of fresh tech amidst a now age-old industry, and are essentially designed to replace the classic WS2812b and similar IC LEDs from that era, and while they were originally designed as a simple alternative, they’ve ended up offering a few minor improvements as well, including faster PWM frequencies for less flickering.

These SK6812 Discrete RGB LED Strips are equipped with the RGB variants of the SK6812 IC LEDs. This is complemented with a discrete PCB design of only 8mm wide rather than the typical 10mm to 15mm width, allowing it to be installed into smaller gaps than usual, and although not offering any particular amazing benefits, this discretely thin size is a great feature to have for certain applications demanding a sleeker and more discrete design.

Finally, theses SK6812 LED Strips operate on a very convenient 5V, and that means that it is relatively easy to integrate these strips directly into various MCU projects, being controllable from simple microcontrollers like Arduino Boards, and even offering wireless capabilities when equipped with a wireless capable MCUs like the WeMos D1 R2 MCU.
