This is a 0.25mm E3D Stainless Steel Nozzle for 1.75mm Filament, stocked to be used with E3D V5 Hotend and V6 Hotend Assemblies. It is designed with special chemical and thermal resistance properties, making it ideal for food-safe 3D printing applications, as well as for printing with highly corrosive filaments like our range of Exotic Filaments like polycarbonate and MetalFill.

While these nozzles are made specifically for highly abrasive filaments, stainless steel nozzles also offer the benefit of around 30% less wear and tear than brass alternatives. However, they are slightly more expensive, which is why many of our customers purchase these nozzles for certain applications. Brass Nozzles, on the other hand, are most often used for standard printing applications that don’t require high corrosive, thermal or abrasion resistance.

As a final note, stainless steel nozzles don’t conduct heat as efficiently as bronze nozzles do, so you might have to set your nozzle temperature up by about 2°C to 4°C.

Guide to Replacing the 0.25mm E3D Stainless Steel Nozzle:

When swapping out E3D Nozzles from other E3D components, we recommend resorting to the hot tightening technique. Follow this procedure, while being careful not to burn yourself.

  • Unscrew the heat-break from the heatsink – about half a turn to be sure you are not tightening against the heat-break in later stages.
  • Heat up your hot end to 285°C. Do not overshoot as you risk damaging your thermistor.
  • Remove the existing nozzle from the heater block and insert the new nozzle.
  • While gripping the heater block, tighten the nozzle. Do not apply any torque through the heat-break, however, as it is one of the most fragile parts of the hotend assembly.
  • Turn off the heat and allow the hot side to cool.
  • Finally, re-tighten the heat-break into the heatsink.

The reason for this procedure is because the aluminium heater blocks used by E3D have a higher thermal expansion coefficient than the brass and steel used in the nozzles and heat breaks. This results in a small gap being created between the nozzle and the break inside the block when the hotend is at high temperatures, but this only happens if the nozzle has been tightened while cold.
