0.4mm E3D Stainless Steel Nozzle For 1.75mm Filament

This 0.4mm E3D Stainless Steel Nozzle is a durable, food-safe nozzle for 1.75mm filament with high corrosive, abrasive and thermal resistances.

 

This is a 0.4mm E3D Stainless Steel Nozzle for 1.75mm Filament, stocked to be used with E3D V5 and V6 hotend assemblies. It is designed with special chemical and thermal resistance properties, making it ideal for food-safe 3D Printing applications, as well as for printing with highly corrosive filaments like our range of Exotic Filaments like polycarbonate and MetalFill.

While these nozzles are made specifically for highly abrasive filaments, stainless steel nozzles also offer the benefit of around 30% less wear and tear than brass alternatives. However, they are slightly more expensive, which is why many of our customers purchase these stainless-steel nozzles for certain applications that require high resistance and durability. Brass nozzles, on the other hand, are most often used for general printing applications that don’t require high corrosive, thermal or abrasion resistance.

As a final note, stainless steel Nozzles don’t conduct heat as efficiently as the brass variations in the E3D Range, so you might have to set your nozzle temperature about 2°C to 4°C higher than usual.

Quick Guide to Changing your 0.4mm E3D Stainless Steel Nozzle:

When swapping out 3D Printer Nozzles from other components, we recommend utilising the hot tightening technique for optimal thermal coupling. To do this, simply follow these easy steps, while being careful not to burn yourself of course.

  • Unscrew the heatbreak from the heatsink by about half a turn, to be sure you are not tightening against the heatbreak in later stages.
  • Heat up your hotend to 285°C, but do not overshoot as you risk damaging your thermistor.
  • Remove the existing nozzle from the heater block and insert the new nozzle.
  • While firmly gripping the heater block, slowly tighten the nozzle. Be careful, however, that you not apply any torque through the heatbreak, as they are fragile and relatively easy to break when loose.
  • Turn off the heating unit and allow the hot side to cool.
  • Finally, once the nozzle is installed and cooled down, tighten the heatbreak back into the heatsink and ensure that there are no loose parts.

The reason for this is that the aluminium heater blocks used have a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than the brass and steel used in the nozzles and heat breaks. This results in a small gap being created between the nozzle and the break inside the block when the hot end is at temperature, but this only happens if the nozzle has been tightened while cold.
