This 0.5mm Nozzle For is a Stainless-Steel nozzle designed for 3mm filament with high abrasion levels, made to last the heavy wear and tear that some Exotic Filaments like glow in the dark or metal-imbued filaments often cause. This is thanks to the harder, more durable materials of these nozzles, which are less malleable than brass and more resistant to corrosion and pitting.

Although these parts are not actually manufactured by E3D, they are made to the exact same specifications, allowing Makers to utilise them as Replacement Nozzles for 3D Printers that utilise the E3D V5 and E3D V6 Hotend Assemblies. This makes them valuable spare parts, which don’t carry the heavy price-tag of the E3D brand, and because of this they are some of the most popular nozzles that we stock for 3mm filament.

Short Guide for Changing Nozzles:

When swapping out E3D Nozzles from other E3D components, we recommend utilising the hot tightening technique. Follow this procedure – while of course being careful not to burn yourself.

  • Unscrew the heat-break from the heatsink half a turn to be sure you are not tightening against the heat-break in later stages.
  • Heat up your hot end to 285°C. Do not overshoot as you risk damaging your thermistor.
  • Remove the existing nozzle from the heater block.
  • Insert the new nozzle.
  • Gripping the heater block tighten the nozzle. Do not apply any torque through the heat-break, they are fragile.
  • Turn off the heat and allow the hot side to cool.
  • Re-tighten the heat-break into the heatsink.

The reason for this is that the aluminium Heater Blocks used by E3D typically have a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than the brass and steel used in the nozzles and Heat Breaks. This results in a small gap being created between the nozzle and the break inside the block when the hot end is at temperature, but this only happens if the nozzle has been tightened while cold.
