Stepper Motors are ingenious Electromechanical devices that are quite distinct from standard DC Motors and servo motors, as they specialise in rotational torque, holding torque and linear motion along guiderails or defined paths. This is due to the incredibly high level of precision in rotation and power, resulting in consistent accuracy that you can not only rely on, but even use as tools of measurement if necessary due to the high precision, specific step angles, and predefined steps per full revolution.

This NEMA 17 Pancake Stepper Motor offers 0.7A current per phase, and produces 1.32Kg.cm holding torque with a small form factor of only 25mm high. This is substantially more compact than many standard Stepper Motors, and that of course makes these steppers ideal for applications in which form factor and total weight is a serious concern. This is precisely what makes them so popular for 3D Printing, as 3D Printers need to maintain the lowest weight possible on all parts that need to be moved within the system, while the high level of accuracy ensures consistent print quality as the Stepper Drivers utilise g-code instructions to follow specifically defined paths while laying down 3D Filament from the extruder assembly.
