Electronics Modules are collections of Electronics Components, predesigned into modular units that specialise in specific functions. They are built to make life as an electronics enthusiast easy, removing the need for building unique and specific circuitry, while making each module's functionality more affordable and accessible to all Makers.
Great examples of valuable yet commonplace modules are thermostats, amplifiers and relay Breakout Boards, as these can easily be built with simple electronics components and circuit boards, but can be far easier to simply buy as entire modular units. And instead of having to solder and connect all of the right components with complex wiring language to make them all work in the right way, you can simply buy a module to connect directly to a main controller board to handle of the hard parts for you!
Another great benefit of Electronics modules is that they are often built with open-ended functionality so that Makers can easily integrate them into pre-existing projects. As such, if you are building a small robot and want to add distance sensing or colour-identification capabilities to it, you can acquire modules to do just that, and then accommodate for these modules within your main control board’s code. In a similar way, you can use those same modules for home automation, electronic gardening systems, or almost any other project that could benefit from it, as the modules are not limited to a specific function, and you can utilise them in whichever way will benefit you most.
Of course, we will never try to dissuade you from venturing into the world of building your own modules with individual components, but we will let you know that modules can make your life a lot easier if you are struggling to build your own circuits – or if you simply want to save time on each project you build.
