Building your own 3D printer like the Prusa i3 is always such an exciting project, but can be met with some difficulty due to the open-source nature – typically having less quality control checks since many parts are personally designed and custom-fabricated. Fortunately, millions of people all over the world are constantly working at solving some of the common problems that 3D Makers experience with DIY kits, which is precisely what sparked the invention of the i3 Damper Pad - Z-Axis.
These pads act as types of shock absorbers or stabiliser for the Z-Axis shaft, and connect between the motor and shaft. This counteracts any wobble that Stepper Motors might have, and ensures that the shaft remains wobble-free while maintaining perfect torque and speed. Designed to be used specifically with NEMA 17 Stepper Motors, these pads are about 43 x 43mm and the mounting holes perfectly match as well. This ensures you don’t have to trim them to size or even modify them at all, and can simply install them to enjoy less z-wobble and higher quality prints.
As a final note, it used to be very viable to print your own damper pads, but as the need for damper pads has grown, it is now more cost-effective to simply purchase professionally fabricated pads like these.
