As Makers who love to 3D print in as many different materials and polymers as we can, we make it our mission to try and always have stock of fantastic items like these 0.8mm Micro Swiss MK8 Hardened Steel Nozzles, which are made to fit Creality 3D printers such as the CR-10 and Ender series, and are ideally suited to highly-abrasive 3D filaments. Micro Swiss has built an impressive professional design with superior non-stick properties and high temperature resistance. Their use of M2 hardened steel means that these nozzles can operate up to 450°C printing temperatures.

While many 3D printers are typically equipped with brass nozzles due to the low cost, high resistance and high thermal conductivity compared to many other materials, bronze is unfortunately not the ideal material to use for 3D printing. However, it certainly does an excellent job for any standard PLA, ABS or other polymers, but if you want to move into more advanced and unique exotic filaments like metal fill polymers, carbon fiber or even glow in the dark, you will definitely need a more rugged nozzle to handle the abrasive materials well without causing problems halfway through a print.

This is why we always make a strong effort to find nozzles like these hardened steel nozzles, as well as a range of other E3D and MK8 nozzles that include various material compositions and platings too. This way, our favourite customers (yes, that’s you) can enjoy 3D printing in whatever desktop material you wish – and without having to pay excessive amounts for “specialised” open-source nozzles.

Typical Applications for these 0.8mm Micro Swiss MK8 Hardened Steel Nozzles:

While many Makers tend to overlook the true value of an abrasion-resistant nozzle, the truth is that standard brass nozzles can only last a short amount of time before failing when printing very abrasive materials. In fact, brass nozzles will typically only be able to print about 100g to 200g of carbon fiber filament before failing due to the output diameter being too large. The 0.8mm size is quite large compared to the hobbyist standard of 0.4mm, and is made to print at higher speeds while sacrificing slightly on print accuracy and fine details. Conversely, hardened steel nozzles can print up to 10kg before failing, making them around 50 times more resistant to abrasion than the commonly used brass nozzles.

As a final note, it’s important to understand that these 0.8mm Micro Swiss MK8 Hardened Steel Nozzles may not always be the right choice, and brass nozzles re perfectly fine for any standard polymers like ABS or PLA filaments. However, if you want to experiment with exotic, unique and particle-filled filaments, then it’s a good idea to safe yourself some time, hassle and wasted filament by acquiring the nozzles that will perfectly cater to your needs.

Within 3D Printing, there are a few brands whose hard work has made them stand out from the rest, with real innovation and the ability to not only refine old designs, but actually redesign from the ground up to offer more comprehensive upgrades for 3D printing enthusiasts and Makers throughout the world.

Micro Swiss is one such brand that perfectly fits this description, and since their founding back in 2015, the Micro Swiss brand has garnered world-wide attention for the quality, material composition and precision of their hotends, nozzles and other all-metal components. With a core focus on TwinClad XT Plated Brass Nozzles and All-Metal Hotend Upgrades for some of the most popular 3D Printers on the market, it’s no surprise that one of the easiest and most effective upgrades available to Makers are Micro Swiss Replacement Parts and Upgrade Kits.

In addition to the amazing 3D Printing components and upgrades that they produce, Micro Swiss also specialise in Swiss Turning, which is capable of precision CNC machining outer diameters as small as 0.0127mm, as well as CNC milling, tapping and post machining finishing for prototyping. These service offerings and correlating skillsets ensure that the Micro Swiss team is more than just capable of producing consistently high-quality parts, but also capable of identifying precisely where each part could use improvements.

As manufacturers and end-users of everything they produce, Micro Swiss is one of the most impressive brands we’ve had the pleasure of dealing with, and we look forward to all of the exciting refinements and developments that they are bound to bring out in the future.
