As avid 3D Makers, we always want to have as many different polymers and colours available, so that we can really let our imagines run loose, our creative sides take over, and ultimately produce beautiful prints to blow the minds of friends, family members and, well, anyone else around us. However, while it’s often difficult to imagine a world where having too many 3D Filaments would be a bad thing, the truth is that filaments can get old, and in a similar fashion to how some things go dry and stale, filament can slowly absorb moisture over time and become brittle. This is why it’s always a good idea to dry out filaments if they have been opened for longer than just a few weeks, and that’s what makes the SunLu FilaDryer S1 Filament Storage & Drying Tool Box such as fantastic tool for any avid 3D Makers who love to take advantage of all of the different polymers and colours available.

Although the SunLu FilaDryer S1 isn’t necessarily a universal fit, it features an internal spool holding size  of 210mm diameter and 80mm width, and this fits not just SunLu Filaments, but also a lot of the classic spools that we stock. Additionally, the FilaDryer S1 also features dual output holes with a tiny plug to block off whichever you’re not using, so that it can heat up and remove the moisture from whatever spools you want to use, while allowing for easy feeding from two different angles to accommodate various 3D Printers and extruder setups as well. This actually makes the SunLu FilaDryer S1 much more than just a drying and storage container, and can actually act as a spool holder that can fix up your filament, keep it protected from moisture and other elements, and then ultimately help feed dry and effective filament to your 3D Printer for it to produce awesome prints without typical moisture-related problems.

While it may surprise you, filament can actually hold a lot of water, and this is evident in the video linked below the table. This can be frustrating, because when living here in South Africa, it’s nearly impossible to hide from humidity, but fortunately for us, with tools like the SunLu FilaDryer S1, we don’t have to simply resort to throwing away old spools or precariously drying them out in a non-PID-control oven. So, whether you love the idea of 3D Printing in Nylon, PETG and other highly hygroscopic materials, or whether you simply hate the way that even spools of PLA can become affected substantially by slow moisture absorption over time, the SunLu FilaDryer S1 is a must-have for any avid 3D Makers who like to keep a good selection of 3D Filaments on hand, and who want to ensure that their prints come out looking great even after months of filaments sitting on the shelf.

  • If you want to see just what the FilaDryer S1 can do, check out this small section from a FilaDryer S1 Review by content creator 3D Printing Revolution, which shows how the print quality improved over time as his filament was drying out, as well as the surprising amount of water that evaporated and condensed within the feeding pipe he was using.

Finally, for those of you who love doing visual research, we invite you to check out this Comprehensive FilaDryer S1 Review from BV3D: Bryan Vines, which covers all of the cool features, the good aspects, as well as the bad, and provides an overall impression of whether the FilaDryer S1 is a good investment for 3D Makers:

Although it may not be a popular brand here in SA (yet!), many 3D Makers will recognise the name SunLu, as these fantastic 3D Filament Makers have been involved in 3D Printing since as far back as 2013, specialising in affordability & accessibility, but placing a strong focus on R&D & bringing new materials to the market for 3D Makers to enjoy.

From the classic PLA & ABS range through to the more exotic styles like PETG & TPU, as well as what we like to call Semi-Exotics like Marble & Twinkling Filament, SunLu has garnered a lot of experience in the world of 3D Filaments, & have one of the most comprehensive catalogues that the Hobbyist 3D Printing world has ever seen. This gives them a good spot amongst the leaders in 3D Filaments, & while they may not quite match the premium quality of Fillamentum & other high class brands, the affordability & range of options that SunLu offers is simply unbeatable even for the major players.

If you’re looking for a good brand to use for all kinds of different prints & applications, but don’t want to pay a premium, SunLu is the ideal brand that is ready to become your next new favourite. So get out there & start testing out the range that SunLu has to offer! With so many options available & a price that is low enough to simply take a chance with, there’s absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t give SunLu a chance & test this awesome brand out, to see if it’s a good fit for your 3D Printing fun.
