If you’ve ever placed your hand on the back of a display or opened up an electronics control box and felt the heat rising off of the components after a few hours of operation, you will understand that Electronics tend to get hot when in use, with some components being quite prone to heat, while others maintain a low temperature throughout their operations. This is quite a commonplace effect in electronics, and if left unchecked can actually cause some serious problems for both electronic and mechanical components, and of course if the heat becomes too high, parts can start breaking down or misbehaving in various ways, and this is precisely why Cooling Fans are such important tools for effective and safe prototyping and electronic design.

These RS Pro 12V 6015 Silent Axial Fans are specially designed to offer great cooling and airflow for electronics and mechanical components like Stepper Motors, while simultaneously offering very low noise levels for a good range of different applications. They are built to a very high quality specification, with their brand name growing in popularity at a relatively constant rate, and are the perfect tools for when you want great cooling, but without adding too much noise to your project. This is ideal for cooling in all kinds of applications, from electronics enclosures to 3D Printers and CNC Machines, and ensures that you can enjoy the best of both worlds, with effective cooling to keep your components safe, but without the loud whirring noises that are quite typical to fans.

Please Note: This is a 24V DC fan, and should thus be used with 24V circuits and systems. However, if you’re looking for a similar fan that operates on 12V DC instead, be sure to take a look at the Orion 12V 6015 Silent Axial Fan, which offers very similar features, but operates on 12V instead of 24V.

Helpful Notes for Installing Your New RS {Pro 6015 Silent Axial Fan:

Whilst many experienced Makers would consider the installation process of a cooling fan to be relatively simple, installing fans on hobbyist 3D Printers is unfortunately not as simple as it should be. Fortunately though, we’ve prepared these handy notes on this process, which should help you get your fan installed perfectly, and without any unexpected damage or hassles. They are as follows:

  • Check Your Polarities – Although cooling fans can typically work both forwards and backwards without problem, it’s important to ensure that your fan is connected in the right way so that the cooling is working just like it should. As such, it’s a good idea to test your fan before committing to permanent connections, and this can be done by applying power and simply looking (or feeling) which way the fan is blowing. This will ensure that, if your fan is meant to blow air forward onto some electronics or into an enclosure, that it’s not actually sucking air in the opposite direction.
  • Wiring Colours May Not Always Match – Don’t simply rely on colours that many of these fans are provided with, because they may not always have the same wiring colours as other fans with the exact same or similar specifications. Additionally, we’ve found that some 3D Printers may also have different wiring, which can sometimes even depend on the batch within the same series. As such, double-check the polarity and markings on the related boards as well, so that you don’t end up running your fan backwards or causing unexpected damage before you even get a chance to use the fan.
