This JDY-08 CC2541 Bluetooth 4.0 BLE Serial Module is a very powerful little gadget, despite its small size and inexpensive cost, and is the result of many years of upgrades and developments on the widely popular Texas Instruments CC2541 Electronics module. It has been integrated onto a base plate that can regulate input voltages ranging between 3.3V to 6V, regulating them down to a 3V supply that the JDY-08 utilises.

This small package offers an incredible amount of wireless  Bluetooth Communication functionality, all while focusing on ultra-low energy usage, and can be used with Android, iPhone, Arduino and many other systems for wireless serial (UART) Communication. It supports both Central and Peripheral mode switching, with easy modifications using AT commands – and also the ability to be configured as master, slave or master-slave mode as well.

The base plate that this JDY-08 module has been integrated onto includes polarity reverse protection and a logic level conversion circuit to protect the module from minor errors or ripples and faults, and can operate on any voltage ranging between 3.3V and 6V at an operating current of 9mA, and ultra-low deep-sleep current of only 90uA.

Bear in mind, however, that this is in fact a BLE4.0 module, and despite having "Bluetooth" in its name, it may not be compatible with all Bluetooth protocols, and the modules, devices or other parts you're using will need to offer BLE4.0 support for this module to operate as expected.

Please Note: These modules can be upgraded with HM-10 firmware if necessary, which is surprisingly common in online communities. And just a quick search for “How to Flash HM-10 Firmware on CC2541” will reveal a plethora of information on the precise steps you need to take in order to do so.
