Making is certainly an awesome hobby, as it allows us to not just get things, but actually things to exact standards, to meet our ever-more-demanding needs, wants, and even subtle tastes. And while you, for example, simply go out and buy a pair of callipers from a local store, there is a certain charm to Making your very own custom callipers, with unique functions that perhaps you only use, or distinct markings to help you identify things according to what you’re already comfortable with. Of course, this is just one example, and there are thousands more to pick from, but regardless of what it might be, if you really want it to be customised, you have to simply Make it yourself, and that’s what we’re all about here at DIYElectronics.

This FireBeetle Covers-24x8 LED Matrix is a White LED Display expansion for the awesome FireBeetle ESP32 IoT Microcontroller, and is designed to add some extra flair to your projects, while also giving it further functionality with a high density display area. This display is comprised of a total of 192 “pixels” or LED’s in a 24x8 matrix or grid format, and operates on both 5V and 3.3V input so as to accommodate a wide range of other microcontrollers too, but is primarily designed to plug directly into the top of a FireBeetle MCU, in a similar way to how Arduino Shields plug into the top of Arduino Boards.

This connection style gives it an impressively discrete form factor when installed on a FireBeetle MCU, while eliminating the need for wiring. Additionally, these FireBeetle Covers also feature an onboard chip select (CS) function as well, which means that it can be cascaded with multiple units simultaneously, with each unit showing either a different set of variables, or with them all working together to create one large display. This is then complemented by the very low power consumption of between 6mA and 100mA, and this means that it can also easily be used for portable projects so long as you equip it with a simple but reliable LiPo Battery.
