To the average Joe, 3D Printers can look like something out of a SciFi movie, but if you really want to blow your friends’ minds, show off your printer augmented with water cooling! Tubes of bright coolant will snake up your printer’s chassis and into your hotend assembly. Upgrading your printer with water cooling really springboards it to the fullest potential. With a specially designed all-metal hotend like the Phaetus Dragon Water Hotend, you can install any water cooling kit and replace noisy unreliable high-speed cooling fans.
The Phaetus Dragon Water Hotend takes the rigid well-engineered structure of the Dragon ST hotend and compacts it for compatibility with water cooling systems. A Hotend Assembly maintains a delicate balance between hot and cold ends to ensure the filament smoothly feeds through. Without an effective cooling system for the rest of the hotend assembly, heat may travel from this melt zone and affect other parts of your assembly. This is called “heat creep” and may result in your filament melting too early within the assembly, building up and then jamming the extruder entirely. Standard stock 3D Printers combat heat creep using Cooling Fans very well, but these small axial fans can only go so fast and really feel the wear as you kick up the printing temperature past 270°C. Logically, Makers have compensated with stronger fans or even dual fans to maintain this temperature balance. While these solutions are certainly effective, they simply cannot compare to the advantages of water cooling which accommodates printing up to 500°C! Print quality is greatly affected by this delicate process, leading to so many different hotend designs. The Phaetus Dragon Water Hotend uses the power of water for cooling and takes advantage of the heat dissipation of its copper alloy material. The aluminium heatsink achieves a continuous room temperature, despite the printing temperatures reaching up to 500°C.
Boasting a high resistance to clogging, the Phaetus Dragon Water Hotend is classified as standard flow and features a smart blue colouring. The all-metal rigid design and included plated copper 0.4mm nozzle allows your 3D Filament to smoothly flow through your hotend. Enjoy printing speeds higher than average thanks to the design of its ultra-thin heat break.
