The Atmel ATmega328P is a surprisingly diverse processing unit due to the modified Harvard architecture and general-purpose design. It is stocked primarily as a cheap replacement part for cloned and original Arduino Boards here in South Africa, but could also be used for your own custom microcontrollers as well – if you are quite sure you know what you’re doing of course.

It offers an impressive 20MIPS in 20MHz top-end processing speed, while consuming as little as 5.5V @ 0.2mA when running at full speed in active mode, and even has advanced Atmel library support for components like capacitive touch buttons in up to 64 sense channels. And these features all culminate into a powerful little package with a price tag lower than a typical meal at a nice restaurant!
