Lightweight IoT projects are amazing to get involved in, and often produce results that even surpass your own expectations in terms of usefulness and fun in getting it all set up just right. However, power is often an issue for such projects, as Internet of Things projects are typically situated away from easy-to-reach power sources, and batteries only last a certain amount of time before running dry. This is why we’ve invested some time and effort into sourcing Solar Power Modules like the Solar Power Manager 5V, which is designed specifically to be used for low-power IoT projects, to power them throughout the day and charge up batteries – which of course keep the project powered after the sun’s gone down.

This 5V Solar Management Module is a DFRobot Original product that offers a relatively neat and clean design, focused on efficient power delivery and lasting durability. It can accept power from 5V Solar Panels, as well as USB micro or a dedicated external 3.7V Lithium-based battery. With these inputs, the module offers a clean and regulated 5V 1A output via the USB OUT or the dedicated header pins, while also offering the ability to charge a connected Lithium Battery with any excess power it receives.

The board, despite being quite simple compared to many other solar management modules available, is highly versatile, offering good functionality for an incredibly wide range of applications. And with a good list of protection features like over Overcharge, Short Circuit, Overcurrent, Overheat and Reverse Connection Protection, there are few other boards that can offer this level of functionality at such an affordable price.

Note: If you’re looking for a higher-power solar manager for bigger projects, consider checking out our Solar Power Manager for 9V/12V/18V Panels, which is also catered towards Lithium-based batteries, as well as our Solar Power Manager for 12V Lead-Acid Battery V1.0 – both supplied by DFRobot.
