Playing with Servo Motors is always fun, as they allow for some rather unique applications such as turrets, mechanical claws, and even multi-terrain robots when equipped with the right accessories. This is why we love adding cool new servos that we find to our catalogue, such as these specialised Clutch Servos from DFRobot, which have a built in clutch mechanism that helps protect it from burnout and damage, while adding some versatile functionality at the same time.

You see, in a typical servo, if you set the motor to turn to a precise rotational position but then block the servo horn from going there, it can easily damage the motor, and this is actually kind of tough to accommodate for when using it for applications like robotic hands or claws, but with a clutch system, this servo can be forced out of position without taking that typical damage, allowing for more versatility in the grip and better functionality for a wider range of cool Electronics applications.

These DFRobot 9g Clutch Servos offer a 300° rotation, but can be manually turned beyond this due to the removal of the internal pinion, with an impressive holding torque of around 1.2kg. this is quite powerful for a little hobby servo, making it a great choice for all kinds of use cases from standard damage-resistant turrets to mechanical claws and grabbers with dynamic grip. But however you like to use them, and whether you actively utilise the clutch or not, you can expect some excellent durability and resistance to common servo damage when you use these awesome DFRobot Clutch Servos.

Typical Applications for DFRobot 300° 9g Clutch Servos:

The unique clutch capabilities of this servo makes it perfect for robotics and other applications in which you don’t always know precisely how your motors are going to be used, such as with robotic hands, grabber claws and other projects that may be subject to brand new variables in each test run. In these situations, instead of having to carefully calibrate the servo motors according to what is being grabbed, these clutch servo motors can apply the grip, employ the use of the clutch if the item being grabbed is too big, and hopefully still grab the object with a pretty strong force, rather than either burning out, breaking or letting go entirely as a typical servo might in the same situation.
