Environment Sensors are awesome tiny modules that allow Makers to see more than our eyes ever could. The MQ-5 Gas Sensor Module detects the LPG, natural gases and coal gases that are often present in towns and cities. We all instinctively know that clean air is important for living a healthy happy lifestyle. But gas leakages and general unclean smoke, cooking and alcohol fumes could cause headaches or lapses in concentration. Part of the Gravity series, this MQ-9 sensor is built onto a breakout board for easily integrating the sensor into a circuit. The convenient operating voltage of 5V caters for standard lightweight electronics projects. With your own gas detector, you can keep yourself and your air healthy.

The Gravity MQ-5 Gas Sensor offers fast response times and wide detection range to keep you safe from dangerous gases. The module detects LPG, natural gases, and town gases like coal gas with high sensitivity, and cigarette smoke, alcohol and cooking fumes at a small sensitivity. While natural gases are non-toxic, the carbon monoxide mixing within town gases become dangerous at high levels. The MQ-5 Gas Sensor sensitivity can be adjusted with the potentiometer. The density of gas is proportional to the output. Using the analog Gravity interface, the MQ-5 Gas Sensor is best matched with the Arduino IO expansion shield to easily integrate with your Arduino project. These features, in conjunction with the long lifespan of materials used to build the Gas Sensor, make it an excellent investment for anyone who might be concerned with the saturation levels of dangerous gases within a home, workplace or even factory environment.

Typical Applications for Gravity MQ-5 Gas Sensor Module:

The MQ-5 Gas Sensor Module is a valuable investment if you need to be able to sense the levels of LPG, natural gas and coal gas in an environment, as it provides an early warning for dangerously high saturation levels. It is designed to detect dangerous levels within a minute and half at most, and can be connected to almost any simple drive circuit – allowing it to be used for safety automation or as a visual or audible alarm.

The module has also been designed in Breakout Board style, with an easy gravity analog cable to simply connect to with a control board like an Arduino. So, whether you want to connect this sensor up to an audible alarm, an automated reaction system or even to the internet in order to alert you via mobile or internet messaging services, this MQ-5 Gas Sensor Module is a good quality yet inexpensive solution.
